"Hear me clearly," "America is not a racist country."- Tim Scott

Iolo/Penderyn is a lot to type, given the unfamiliar spellings which I won't remember, and I do like nicknames.

What do you think about the Cardiff Cannibal? [Just a first try.]

I was Iolo for ages, and would be still but for some problem about my registration. Iolo's the man in the picture, a famous poet, forger and patriot, pronounced Yoh-lo. Penderyn (Penn der[in) is a place and Dic Penderyn was one of our first working-class martyrs. I have no thoughts about anything from Cardiff! :)

Depends on which country you are talking about, a bit like your states, probably. A fair bit of Eastern Europe is sick with it. In many it is disguised as anti-Muslim obsession.

I have a real good high school buddy, black guy. He played basketball professionally for almost 20 years in Germany. So he had a chance to travel quite a bit around Europe. We were just talking about his experiences there and at one point the issue of race came up. He said he experienced definition racism while there including harassment by cops.

Now I didn't really press him so I don't if he had one racist experience in 20 years or these were a series of regular events, though it seemed more than an isolated incident. In America, there's a certain segment of the population that view Europeans as more sophisticated than us and beyond this type of behavior. Listening to my friend painted a different picture.

Edit: To be fair, this is just one person's experience. So that alone doesn't define Europe.

I'm American. Some of us have heard of Cardiff.
The rest can't name a single Welsh town at all.

Coming up with a nickname for you will be difficult.
If you were Catherine Zeta-Jones from twenty years ago, I'd have come up with something by now.

By the way, understanding the dialogue from Hinterland was a chore.

I was born about ten miles outside Cardiff, and my father's family came from just down the coast westward, but everyone kept quiet about that, and I only found out by doing family history. From the beginning of any kind of democracy here, this Valley had a trade union MP, Mabon, leader of the South Wales Miners' Federation, and it had one of the strongest and most militant union branches in the world (our coal fueled the fleet, so we had bargaining power). Language is a complicated issue here - many of my mother's Ceredigion/Cardiganshire relatives didn't speak English when I was a kid. Nowadays we're an officially bilingual society, but it's been a long fight - we were incorporated into England in 1536 and have had a long fight to get out: we still smell of it, alas! Our accent is easy enough when you get used to it - it's a matter of where you stress words.

What a rabbit hole this whole discussion is lol.

Ok, we have this nebulous thing called systemic racism that we have to stop the world and contend with. What’s up with the only focusing on white vs black racism?

Isn’t that racist?

True. There are various kinds of racism. However black vs white racism is the main kind of racism here in America.

Of course I understand dems can't ever allow for teh fact we have changed our country in basic ways.
Not just the Civil War, but more importantly the Civil Rights legislation that outlawed discrimination

The proof is a thriving black middle class

Agreed, however until everyone is forced to be equal, equal pay, equal house, equal car, Democrats will bang the drum to gin up votes!

Yes, and until they get a pound of flesh for something none of the black community went through, and white people today had nothing to do with, and white people are enslaved, the left will not be satisfied!

I've experience Latino vs Euro racism.

I was friendly with this Puerto Rican guy at work. He was every bit as American as I, and quite good at his work.
We had lunch together once in a while.

We were both planning to attend the same boxing match, and I suggested that we go together.
He said he was going with his friends.
I asked if I could go with them.
He acted hesitant and said that I'd be the only white guy in the group,
and frankly, he looked awfully white himself to be saying that.

Not exactly a terrible blow as racism goes. I'm not trying to suggest that.
I was just surprised by it though. Even that tiny, insignificant whiff of racism was unexpected.

Have you ever considered being a stand-up comedian? :)

Yeah. We've all seen and experienced racism, both subtle or overt.

explain where I am wrong and we can talk you said yourself black against white racism is the worst

You said that the left won't be satisfied until white people are enslaved. You realize what you were saying? There are many white people on the left. You didn't think it through.

I said that black vs. white or white vs. black racism is the main kind of racism today in America.

Racism towards Asians seem to inch closer lately.

I meant what I said, perhaps I should have said most blacks! I am a white, conservative, heterosexual christian, who loves my country, and understands it's history, who is more marginalized than I am?

I am not aware of any black person who wants white people to be enslaved. And reparations? Those are just a very tiny minority of kooks that we can safely ignore.

Hear me clearly," he said. "America is not a racist country."

Scott used the GOP rebuttal to continue a theme he started earlier in the week about how there is unity in the country's diversity, claiming that Republicans have supported policies that have reformed the criminal justice system and opened the economy to all Americans regardless of race.

"Just before COVID, we had the most inclusive economy in my lifetime," he said.
"The lowest unemployment rate ever recorded for African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians, and a 70 year low nearly for women. Wages were growing faster for the bottom 25% than the top 25%. That happened because Republicans focused on expanding opportunity for all Americans."

Republicans controlled Washington in May 2018 when the African American unemployment rate dipped to 5.9%, for instance.

This is why I am on the right and support the GOP.

On a fundamental level Democrats and the left believe that the US is a fundamental evil and bad for the world. Any problem other countries have can be traced back to it.

On a fundamental level Republicans and the right believe that the US is a force for good on the world stage and the prosperity others enjoy is because of it.
