Argument from ignorance fallacy

Albert Einstein --> "You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth."

Your imagination is somethin' else.
Perry, you're a well known liar and you are simply proving you are a stupid liar by denying the quoted statements are yours.

Are you really so mentally challenged that you believe changing your username means you can't be held accountable for your posts?

That's a great quote.

Einstein wasn't a practicing Jew and thought the conventional monotheistic religions were superstitious. But he is admirable in that he wasn't militant about it, and did not spend his time searching the Old Testament for random quotes in a quest to prove Christianity was barbaric.

That's a great quote.

Agreed. I'd never seen it before, but do like the entire quote in the link: " "I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal god is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth. I prefer an attitude of humility corresponding to the weakness of our intellectual understanding of nature and of our own being.""

Internet denizens needn't be held responsible for any quotes
whether they use one user-name or twenty, Oom.

They're just made-up internet characters blowing off steam.

The cyber-sewer should never be regarded as a part of the real world.

Those who do
end up with some pretty fucked up ideas.

The real question is this:

With my obvious contempt for the internet,
which is palpable,
why do I spend so much time here?

I don't have a precise answer,
but I assume it's some combination of boredom and senility.

All dogmatic religions are superstitious. It's one thing to believe in an all powerful force behind the creation of the Universe but it's another to dress up on costumes, create rituals of worship and condemn all those who don't follow the dogma.

Dogma, of course, being one of the funniest movies about the subject. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120655/ :)

I wonder what "the nearest PS" means? What's a PS?

"Like Gaugin in Tahiti at the nearest PS."

It's really funny that militant atheists think I am a bible thumper, but meanwhile holy rollers think I am an atheist

Here's my opinion: you are on the fence about whether God exists or not but you were raised in the Church so you can't really let go of the God Thought. So you go with "agnostic" because that sounds cool and it "fits" your belief that God might not exist but you don't know and you are afraid of offending God so you go with "agnostic" hoping that God will be "OK" with that in case he exists.

There's literally nothing else on earth that you apply that sort of thinking to. If someone told you there was an invisible 1" tall elephant in your fridge you wouldn't shrug your shoulders and say "I guess we'll never know!"

If you want to cling to being obsessed with me as having "something", sure, go for it, son. God bless America and our Constitution.

Ask your socks, such as Stringfellow Hawk, about my count. Like Sybil, you can have a conversation with yourself. :rofl2:

Ask Matt and his sock Wolverine the same question. You two belong together.

Thanks for proving, once again, Arbie, that you are not a Christian except by claim only.

How many times do I have to tell you coward, I have no socks. I've told Phan numerous times to tell the forum if I have socks and she hasn't said a damn thing to prove I don't.
Your post count is there for all to see, you live here all day, every day. You have no life, no friends, and nothing but the lies of your fantasy life. Sucks to be you, doesn't it?

BTW, it appears you've had your diaper changed. Did the caregiver use the power washer on you since you're a fat bedridden pervert? And no, I don't feel sorry for you...at all.

"Like Gaugin in Tahiti at the nearest PS."

I explained it that day. It stands for "pot shop". At least that is what they are called often around here.

My thinking was Doc claimed to have some "skill" and I thought I don't like art like Gaugin's and wouldn't it be funny if Gaugin was poorly painting losers at the dispensary?

One post? Sure. However, over multiple posts a pattern forms and they should be held accountable for that pattern of behavior.

Disagreed that the Internet is not part of the real world. Is what drunk says in a bar part of the real world? Yes, it is. Like a single post, what a drunk says once is one thing. What a drunk says all the time is another.

Additionally, like drunks where they are often speaking emotionally and uninhibited, the anonymity of the Internet allows people, drunk, drugged or sober, to speak freely and uninhibited except for forum rules. Something said once can be a typo, bad hair day or something else. Something posted repeatedly isn't fiction, it's them. Their true nature.

:good4u:

I actually don't mind ritual. We wouldn't be humans without ritual. I actually really enjoy the ritual, ceremony, incense, and iconography of the Eastern Orthodox service. The Orthodox have never claimed God is a white bearded man in a robe, or that he is a highly personal god: God is remote, exists outside time and space, and is beyond human comprehension.

But I don't feel I have to accept all facets of Christian doctrine and dogma, or that humans neccessarily have a special place in creation.

Absolutely great movie, despite the gratuitous foul language!
