Whether they do or not, Venezuela hasn't fought a war in almost 200 years. Its military is a joke. Half the population lives outside the country now because of Maduro. Maduro was not popular, and his backers have no experience in fighting some sort of prolonged war like Vietnamese or Afghans had where warfare was going on for decades, if not longer, before the US showed up.

So, what reason does the average Venezuelan have to want to die for their country fighting the US who removed an unpopular dictator who had fucked their lives up thoroughly?

You really have no idea about patriotism, Terry. Are you still confused on why the Vietnamese and Iraqis fought the US occupation? We were there to free those people, amirite? LOL

The Viet Min and Ho Chi Minh et al., wanted the French out of Indochina (Vietnam). When the Japanese invaded, the US and Allied forces supplied him with weaponry to fight them. This wasn't lavish by any measure and when WW 2 ended, the Vietnamese kept on with resistance against France reoccupying the area.

Ho even made several trips to the US to try and talk FDR, then Truman into helping him but his being a Communist proved a stumbling block. That resulted in the phase of the Vietnam war where the French were fighting and failing to control the country. When they pulled out, the US backed a split nation like happened in Korea.

Unlike with Korea, Ho Chi Minh didn't try an overt invasion but rather started a war of revolution using guerilla forces. The US up to LBJ supplied only arms and instructors to the South staying out of direct conflict. Then LBJ, using the lie of the Gulf of Tonkin incident sent in the US military big time and that was the onset of our Vietnam war. LBJ totally fucked that away and Nixon eventually decided to leave rather than keep a war we weren't going to outright win going.

That was followed by the invasion of the South by the North in an overt war, the first time being a failure. The second succeeding because a Democrat led Congress refused to pony up money for arms and munitions we were supposed to supply S. Vietnam with in the event they were invaded. The Democrats got us into that shit war, and the Democrats fucked away the peace that followed.

We crushed Iraq because Saddam was on of the world's leading suppliers of funds, training, and equipment for terrorist groups around the world. Sure, he wasn't supplying Al Queda but only because Al Queda, after meeting with him, found him to be not sufficiently committed to Islam to work with. Most of the Iraqi resistance to US occupation was to secure their position politically versus other groups of which there were principally three:

The Kurds
The Sunni faction that had backed Saddam
The Shiite faction that was backed by Iran

Iraq is fucked up like a soup sandwich because it was an artificial country made by the British and French on the breakup of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WW 1. It had three factions that hate each other.

You don't understand it. Venezuelans have no reason to start a war of resistance to a US occupation, particularly if that occupation is minimal and friendly. Like I said, Hersey bars and Spam will go a long way to making the populace happy. They sure as hell don't want a Maduro government back.

Let's chat about this in another year when the Trump media imposes a blackout on the occupation of Venezuela to hide the US body bags being returned home.

Hard to fight on a full belly, especially after its being so long empty.

What does the average person in Venezuela care about who gets the oil? They care about a full belly, their kids safety, and a sound night's sleep. They care about a return to the Rule-of-Law.

America needs to end the power/money of drug cartels. So, this incursion had to happen. Venezuela may not manufacture the fentanyl, but they sure as hell enable its transport.

But let's not fool ourselves, this action was done for the oil-profits of rich Americans. Let's have some pity for the poor Venezuelan common people.

And let's try not to let the zeal for the extraction of the oil wealth from the ground, result in the damage or destruction of the natural wonder of the Orinoco River Basin.

There is much in Venezuela to protect. America needs to maintain perspective.
