Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas has issued an apology after saying in an interview that Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine.”

Thomas, a longtime White House correspondent who now writes a column for Hearst newspapers, made the comments May 27 after a White House Jewish heritage event.

Asked by Rabbi David Nesenoff of RabbiLive.com if she had “any comments on Israel,” Thomas replied, “Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.”

Thomas went on to say that the Palestinian people “are occupied and it’s their land” and that Israelis should “go home” -- to Poland, Germany, America “and everywhere else.”

In a written statement issued Friday, Thomas apologized, saying, “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians.”

She said the comments “do not reflect” her “heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance.”

I just like pointing out the fact that liberals are just as racist. Send the jews back to Poland, classic, I think around 3 million jews ended up dead in Poland.
 
Shes a typical Jew hating Democrat...I'm so glad she said what she said...out loud, on the air, and its just undeniable....shes a loyal, true blue Democrat and always has been...If US Jews feel any loyalty to Israel, its time they wake the fuck up and think about who they support when they vote....

Having heard the interview, I'd say that Thomas is a bit out there, and actually is a full-on hater. Most people wouldn't say anything that extreme, and there's no way her apology is sincere. She proudly said it into a microphone, and was given the chance to tone it down or take it back, and didn't...

Typical partisan peckerhead...you had no problem believing the worst about this SC Rep. with no video or audio to confirm the slur claim but Helen Thomas's rant, which is obviously anti-Semitic, you just ignore...even defend...

Sen. Knotts could have been making a joke but with audio of video there is no independent proof...only his word...

Washington (CNN) -- Longtime White House reporter Helen Thomas has retired effective immediately, Hearst Corporation said Monday.

The media conglomerate had employed Thomas as a syndicated columnist for its newspaper chain. Her retirement comes amid a furor created last week by her controversial comments regarding Jewish people.

Thomas, 89, was considered the dean of the White House press corps, as she was the longest-serving White House journalist. She has been covering administrations since 1960, when she began covering then-President-elect John F. Kennedy and his family.

Thomas, had come under fire late last week when a YouTube video surfaced showing her saying that Israel should "get the hell out of Palestine," and that the Jewish people should go home to "Poland, Germany ... and America and everywhere else."

But the apology was not enough to silence critics, who began a rising chorus of calls for Thomas either to be terminated or suspended by Hearst.

Just prior to Hearst's announcement, the board of the White House Correspondents Association released a statement condemning Thomas' remarks. The group of White House reporters, which includes CNN's Ed Henry, called Thomas' remarks "indefensible."

After Helen's comments, she is at best extremely opposed to Jewish people living in the mid east.

What she stated was highly bigoted and essentially equatable to telling all African Americans to go back to Africa as they do not belong here. Had she said that, she rightfully would have been labeled a racist.

And she's right - we could have partial world peace
if Israel would agree to give up that stupid sacred sand.

We could move Israel to southern Arizona and solve all kinds of problems but people don't want their problems solved - they want to wallow in them.

What fun is living in peace?

Who wants to see their grandchildren grow up, anyway?

Why not live your whole lives surrounded by insane people who want you dead?

But...perhaps to keep her job, she had to tell them the lies they love to hear.

I can't even tell what that's supposed to mean, but that's probably Helen Thomas's first lie .

I'm not going to pretend that I haven't voiced my opinion that Israel should never have been created back in 1947, which I noticed Ken said on a thread earlier today, but its 2010. I'm not going to support a policy of forcing Israel to fold up and its Jews return to Europe. Especially when so many of them came from Islamic countries like Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Syria, etc.

The main thing I would like to see is Israel pull all of its people out of the West Bank, where they aren't supposed to be. The WB forms the bulk of what would potentially become the future Palestinian state, with Jericho as the likely capital.
