He's playing the "too cool for school" card and trying to impress.

The classic Godzilla flicks are golden, they had an entire ROSTER of freaky "guys in a rubber suit" monsters and they were a blast to watch!

The new generation Godzilla/Gamera films created back in the early 00's are a blast and this new one looks to be pretty awesome too!

The last (and first) major North American produced Godzilla movie didn't really have anything to do with Godzilla, Toho studios later retconned the Godzilla featured in it as an entirely different monster, Zilla, to be shed of the embarrassment. This is supposed to be a remake of the original, rather than a reimagining vaguely connected with the series, and stays closer to the source material.

Ahh...they did do an Ultraman remake in 2004. Must not have been distributed in the US. That or it really sucked.
