There's a difference between a leader of a group making a public display of it and a simple citizen praying without making a scene.
Consider religion like sexual harassment in the work place. What's appropriate and what isn't. A boss coercing people to blow him for promotions with "hints" is no different than public school leaders giving "hints" about who is religiously righteous and who is heathen scum. It's a form of bullying.

Obviously I am not opposed to what this coach is doing. But I wouldn’t be opposed if he was some other religion as long as players/students weren’t coerced to join him.
Traditionally prayer has been a part of sports in my neck of the woods. While most schools have stopped having a public prayer before a game, most teams have either a student led prayer or a coach led prayer either in the locker rooms or on the ball field.
Also look at the OU girls softball team and their post game circle. Again, it is voluntary and player led.

It was the right decision. He didn't pressure students into doing anything. It's certainly entertaining though to watch Christians defy what Jesus himself said, though.
