Hillary's slide in the polls continues

See, this is the sort of empty statement liberals are known for. Formally, it's known as a 'naked assertion'. In other words, all they need to do is, merely state, that it's 'hopelessly naive to think racism and xenophobia doesn't play a significant role'.

Prove it.

You don't have to look further than Trump's speeches and tweets.

He knows it, and he plays to it. He ratchets up the fear. From his opening statement about bringing drugs, bringing crime, etc. through to today - he knows exactly what he's doing. Your candidate is the proof.

In a way, part of me hopes it happens. It will marginalize the GOP for literally decades.

It might even give rise to a new political party, which would be pretty welcome.

I think it will revitalize the GOP, make it a voice for it's main stream base instead of being Democrat-lite.

It happens that it's a fact that criminals and etc are coming across the southern border.

Is Trump being xenophobic for pointing out the obvious?

Bill Clinton 1995 SOTU speech:

“All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country,” Clinton said during the speech. “The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers.”
‘That’s why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens,” he continued.

I'm not saying that there aren't those who are just concerned about immigration.

But for you to suggest that a significant # of supporters aren't racist & xenophobic is hopelessly naive. What planet do you live on?
Can't speak for the US, but without doubt the UK is the most racially tolerant country on the planet bar none. Most people over here are concerned about the massive strains that recent immigration has put on wage levels, jobs, housing, the NHS, roads etc. None of which was planned for or indeed expected I might add. Add to that the hugely undemocratic and arrogant nature of the EU and that's why Brexit happened.

When Mexican immigrants are coming here illegally why do we need to be polite about it?

It has nothing to do w/ manners. It's about honesty.

In a way, your question above confirms what I've been saying: Trump exaggerates to paint the darkest, scariest picture possible, with little regard for the reality. It plays right to the xenophobes, and that's why he does it.

But you won't give a direct answer on why it's 'xenophobic' to advocate for secure borders. How do you tell the difference between someone who advocates for secure borders verses an actual xenophobe? Do you have special powers or something?

Trump is Trump. He doesn't play politically correct games with border issues or much else. And no, you don't need to be a xenophobe to appreciate it.

Aren't you the one who is trying to turn a cough into a life-threatening situation on another thread?

I don't think so......do you have me confused with someone else?......I merely commented on the thought that journalists who mentioned it should be castigated.....

Typical Trumpster answer. It's Trump being Trump, and not being "politically correct." I don't think any of you understand what politically correct means anymore.

Trump plays to people's fears about immigrants. He plays to their fear of anything different just in general. He's a master at that, and he's been doing it from day 1. And, like I keep saying - he knows exactly what he's doing. He knows who the audience is for his exaggerated rhetoric.
