Renewable energy resources saw “massive” and “historic” expansion globally in 2023, with the fastest growth still to come, according to a major new report released in January.*
Renewables 2023, an assessment by the International Energy Agency, reported that the world’s capacity to generate electricity from renewables (solar, wind, and other power sources that don’t burn polluting fuels) expanded by 510 gigawatts in 2023, which is 50% more than the also-hefty amount added in 2022.*
The 2023 expansion was “equivalent to the entire power capacity of Germany, France, and Spain combined,” IEA’s executive director Fatih Birol (@fbirol) shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. The post included a graph showing the expansion of renewables since 2015.
Along with its analysis of 2023 data, the IEA projected that renewable power will see its “fastest growth yet” over the next five years.
This forecast puts the renewables sector on track to see global capacity increase to 2.5 times its current level by 2030. That’s short of the pledge to triple renewables by that time. In December, 118 nations supported the initiative at the UN Climate Conference (COP 28).*
The IEA contends that governments can make up the difference. To do so, they will need to overcome hurdles such as insufficient financing for renewables in emerging and developing countries.*
“Global renewable capacity is already on course to increase by two-and-a-half times by 2030. It’s not enough yet to reach the COP 28 goal of tripling renewables, but we’re moving closer — and governments have the tools needed to close the gap,” Birol said in a statement.*

Question:

Would you pay 3 to 5 times more for electricity if it was generated exclusively by wind and solar sources?

What a stupid, irrelevant question. I don't know where you get your data but it's wrong.

FOX NEWS HOST MAKES WAVES WITH DECISION TO INSTALL MONEY-SAVING HOME ADDITION: ‘WHAT DOES MURDOCH THINK?’
“A good investment in much of the U.S., regardless of politics.”

A popular Fox News host installed solar panels on the roof of his home after giving airtime to skeptics of clean energy and the existence of our planet’s overheating.
The Washington Post reported on Oct. 25 that Bret Baier, whose “Special Report with Bret Baier” program has millions of viewers, added 86 solar panels to his $31.9 million mansion.***
“A Fox News guy has solar panels? What does [Fox founder Rupert] Murdoch think?!” one person wrote in a forum for D.C. parents, per the Post.
According to data from EnergySage, as reported by the Post, installing solar panels is a significant investment. Still, the amount of money consumers save on electric bills means that, in D.C., the cost can be offset in as little as five years.*
“Solar panels are a good investment in much of the U.S., regardless of politics,” Jenny Chase, the lead solar analyst at the energy research firm BloombergNEF, told the Post.*
In August 2022, President Joe Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill aimed at saving Americans money and protecting the environment by incentivizing clean energy and products that reduce pollution, like solar panels or electric vehicles.
The Post also noted that Baier, despite hosting a positive discussion about solar power in 2019, has given a platform to writer Marc Morano at least 10 times, even though Morano is known for repeatedly engaging in climate denial and rejecting widely accepted facts.*
According to the Guardian, a 2018 Facebook video by Morano — that garnered more than five million views — opened by denying that human activities have caused our planet’s temperatures to warm, despite the fact that over 99.9% of peer-reviewed scientific studies conclude that Earth’s overheating is primarily due to human activities.*

Super Bowl 2024 to be powered by Nevada desert solar farm, marking a historic green milestone

Super Bowl 2024 is setting the stage not just for a showdown between top NFL teams, but also for a major environmental milestone. This year, the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host a Super Bowl powered entirely by renewable energy — a first in the history of the event.
The seemingly desolate area of the Nevada desert is the source of the green energy used to power the game.

A vast solar farm with over 621,000 panels shimmers like a mirage but with the capability to power close to 60,000 residential customers — or one very big stadium.
The Las Vegas Raiders, which call Allegiant Stadium home, have entered into a 25-year agreement to buy power from this new solar installation owned by NV Energy.
CEO Doug Cannon said that the solar installation would supply more than 10 megawatts of power for the Super Bowl. This amount of energy is roughly equivalent to the consumption of 46,000 homes.

Electric Car Batteries Will Get Much Better in the Near Future.

One of the reasons people say that they don’t like electric vehicles is because they don’t like having to stop and charge every 200-430 miles. It's even worse in the extreme cold winters we've seen in the US.

There's good news though. Researchers have now found a way to potentially make car batteries hold a charge for over 620 miles at a time.

Professor Soojin Park and Dr. Hye Bin Son from the Department of Chemistry at Pohang University of Science and Technology have come up with a way of extending battery life using micro silicon particles and gel polymer electrolytes.

You gotta love technology.

Electric cars are the future.

Wind Energy Companies Issue Grim Outlook For Year Ahead

he world’s three largest %WindEnergy companies have issued disappointing financial results and offered a grim outlook for the industry over the coming year.

Electricity generated from wind turbines continues to face headwinds that include project delays, equipment problems, inflation, and high interest rates.

Consequently, German industrial conglomerate %SiemensEnergy (OTC: SMNEY), the world’s largest maker of offshore wind turbines, said that it expects a 2024 loss of $2.2 billion U.S.

Siemens said that its wind division, called “Siemens Gamesa,” continues to struggle with quality problems and financial issues.

Yes, Electric Cars Are Cleaner, Even When The Power Comes From Coal

Even racing cars are going electric, like this Jaguar I-Type 3 race car competing in the FIA Formula
One argument against electric vehicles (EVs) made by those that wish to cling to the certainties of the internal combustion engine is that we need to decarbonise the power system first otherwise cars are no cleaner than if they use gasoline.

Many observers question whether electric cars really are ‘greener’ once emissions from production and generating their electricity are taken into account.

Leaving aside the instant improvements in local air quality from not having harmful tailpipe emissions pumping into the atmosphere, a new study suggests that EVs help to tackle climate change in all but the most coal-reliant countries.

A new study by the universities of Exeter and Cambridge in the UK and Nijmegen in the Netherlands has concluded that electric cars lead to lower carbon emissions overall, even if electricity generation still relies on fossil fuels.

The nations with the most solar and wind ALL have the highest KWH rates in the world. That is pretty conclusive evidence that when you increase use of solar and wind, your cost per KWH skyrockets. The same is true in the US by state. More solar and wind = higher electricity bills. The average worldwide is 3 to 5 times more than you'd be paying with nuclear and natural gas.

Wind and solar suck!

MAJOR ENERGY CORPORATION’S VALUATION SKYROCKETS TO NEARLY $8 BILLION FOLLOWING NEW INVESTMENTS: ‘WE’RE BUILDING A NEW SYSTEM’

The company is currently operating in 18 countries across the globe.
by Jeremiah Budin*/*February 8, 2024

Octopus Energy, a privately owned British renewable energy company, recently raised an additional $800 million in funding, bringing its valuation up to $7.8 billion.
It is now the largest electric retailer in the United Kingdom (according to Canary Media and recent regulation data), and the company plans to keep expanding, continuing to push the transition away from dirty, polluting energy sources like oil and gas.
Per Canary Media, the investments have come from a variety of sources, including Australian utility company Origin Energy, Tokyo Gas, the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and Generation Investment Management (Al Gore’s investing firm).
Octopus Energy was founded recently, in 2016, and has grown incredibly quickly in less than a decade — evidence that much of the world is more than ready to embrace clean, renewable energy sources like solar and wind.

Super Bowl 58 to be the first fully powered by renewable energy

This year's Super Bowl will be the first one fully powered by renewable energy, thanks to the host stadium's agreement with a solar farm, reports say.
More than 621,000 solar panels found in a barren area of the Nevada desert help power the Allegiant Stadium, home to the Las Vegas Raiders and host of Super Bowl LVIII, reports several media outlets.
According to the stadium's website, it's 100% "powered by by Nevada-sourced renewable energy."
According to CBS News, the Les Vegas stadium entered into a 25-year agreement with NV Energy to buy power from its new solar installation.
Doug Cannon, CEO of NV Energy, told CBS the solar panel installation produces enough to power 60,000 homes.
For an event like the Super Bowl, the solar panels must produce 10 megawatts, which is enough to power 46,000 homes.
Is renewable energy reliable, or will the power shut down mid-game?
According to the US Energy Information Administration, over 20% of the U.S.'s electricity came from renewable energy in 2022.

Solar panels are created to withstand goofball sized hail @ 50mph. It would have to be one hell of a hailstorm.

"Hail isn’t the only cause of solar system damage from weather conditions. High winds, lightning strikes, heavy rain, snowfall accumulation, frost and ice buildup, and falling branches can also cause solar panels to malfunction."

https://discoversolarpower.com/can-solar-panels-be-damaged-by-hail/

Those big solar arrays are not really viable at this point in time.

Small modular nuclear is the way to go. It has much less of a negative environmental impact and provides more power reliably and safely.

If you care to look past OP's propaganda BS as to what's really happening in Europe, you would know that things are transitioning to small, modular nuclear.

Yes, goofball hail sized is especially dangerous! That is all, carry on.
