What was not taught to me in school, are things like Woodrow Wilson admin putting his political opponent in jail for protesting his war, or FDR locking up Japanese Americans.

U. S history courses all contain stories of lynchings, Rosa Parks, Emmet Till, lunch counter sit-ins, Mississippi Freedom Riders, the march on Washington and Selma, Jim Crow, Brown v. Board, Little Rock, and school integration, MLK, Malcolm X, and black panthers. That does not make the history lesson incomplete because that one event was omitted in some classes. Many others were taught. I don't think Guno knew about it until he read the NY Times story.

I thought the Indians did not believe the land belonged to anybody.

I wasn't aware it was ok commit atrocities on trespassers. The settlers were just the latest trespassers over previous tribes that had lived on that land before being conquered by the latest trespassers. The Mayan, Aztec, and Inca created empires of peoples whose land they trespassed on.
