anyway, this is exactly the situation that well-run public financing for campaigns can address. I imagine in that county, Darla, that the Democratic party machine is so powerful, that they can suck up all the oxygen and money, and keep competitors from getting on the ballot and competing.
If someone who wanted to run had access to public financing, they wouldn't have to worry about some authoritarian party machine using its political and financial power to run their candidates unopposed.
