House Exiles Marjorie Taylor Greene From Panels, as Republicans Rally Around Her

The House votes to strip Marjorie Taylor Greene of her committee assignments.

The House on Thursday took the extraordinary step of ousting a lawmaker from two congressional committees, exiling Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia for endorsing the executions of Democrats and spreading dangerous and bigoted misinformation even as her fellow Republicans rallied around her.

In a move without precedent in the modern Congress, the House voted 230 to 199— over near-unanimous Republican opposition — to remove Ms. Greene from the Education and Budget Committees.

Swift action by the Democrats! Just what we need.

The vast majority of Republicans voted to keep the kook on the education committee.

No. It is not that at all.

I have no problem w/ the idea that someone who thought the Parkland shooting was fake should not serve on, say, the education committee.

You literally have no idea at all what tyranny of the majority is. I've never seen that term so misused.

Do you have an issue with a member who thinks the island of Guam could capsize?

How about racist rants? Plenty of Democrats do that regularly. Should racists be banned from committees?

How about AOC on Gorebal Warming? Should raving lunatic scientific illiterates be stripped of committee seats?

What's the standard here?

There's a line. I know it when I see it.

Are you suggesting their should be NO standards at all?

And it's not up to me. It's up to the entity she belongs to. Like it is with any business or organization.

you are equating a dumbass statement about Guam capsizing or someone having a clue about climate change to a goddamn piece of shit racist bitch liking a post that calls for the killing of democrats like obama and clinton and pelosi? who denied the carnage at Parkland and Sandy Hook, and stalked a kid who went to congress to testify about it as a "coward and a liar?" fuck you.

It is EXACTLY that! Democrats can say all sorts of whack-a-doodle stuff and they don't get the boot. They can spew violent, insane, retarded stuff all day long but they're safe because they're in the majority. A Republican who says something the Democrats don't like, No more committees for you! It's a tyranny of the majority. What's next? Maybe they'll take away other member privileges for being uppity.

ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES ...sound familiar?

Gardner is a Trumper and believes in fascism.

She's a whack-a-doodle, but I totally disagree with the Democrats removing her from her committees. It is up to her constituency to decide if she's not who they want in Congress, not the opposition party in Washington.

The danger here is: Who is next? Will the Democrats target other House members for such expulsion based on speech they don't like? There's nothing to stop the Democrats from whipping up a media frenzy against some other Republican(s) they don't like then holding a simple majority vote to kick them too off committees. It's a tyranny of the the mob majority.
You're parroting the party talking points. She's threatened Pelosi and others. She doesn't belong in Congress at all, but Democrats have no control over that. It wouldn't surprise me to find that she was complicit in the Jan. 6 terror attack on the Capitol.

What racist rants from democrats?

And surely a bonafide trump thing like yourself doesn’t want to see racists kicked out of anything.

The House voted largely along party lines Thursday to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her two committee assignments, a precedent-shattering move by Democrats to rebuke a Republican who has espoused extremist beliefs that she publicly renounced in part just hours before the vote.

It's odd that in a silent vote, no Republicans voted to remove her, but in public 11 Republicans voted to strip her of her cabinet postions.

The 11 Republicans who voted in favor of the resolution are:

Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania
Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan
Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart of Florida
Rep. Nicole Malliotakis of New York
Rep. John Katko of New York
Rep. Young Kim of California
Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey
Rep. Carlos Gimenez of Florida
Rep. Chris Jacobs of New York
Rep. Maria Salazar of Florida

Díaz-Balart, Gimenez, and Salazar all represent districts in South Florida, near the site of the 2018 mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school. Greene previously called the attack a "false flag planned shooting" and suggested that a school security guard was paid to let the gunman carry out the attack. She also questioned and mocked survivors of the shooting, calling one an "idiot" and claiming he was "trained like a dog."

Freshman lawmaker Malliotakis represents constituents in Staten Island - a group of people who would likely be unhappy about Greene's past support of conspiracy theories that suggested the terror attacks on 9/11 were staged by the US government.
