How Do You Get Like This?

I've been poor and I've been not so poor (never rich) and not so poor is better.....

But I've ALWAYS lived within my means and that way the stress is minimal....

Onceler, and now it seems SF read it the same way I do? How do you feel about this? It's not too late Onceler...you can turn back. I know the dark side is strong...

I feel the pain of everyone, Darla. It's always been that way. I'm a bit like Dana Troy....

Well like I said earlier going through the experience of going from upper middle class to unemployed and homeless, in 24 hours, that losing all your material posessions can be liberating to the spirit in that it forces you reasses what your values and your priorities are. Before that happened I was driven for success. Afterwards I have been driven to live well. I learned that as long as you have the material resources to meet your basic needs, that the only thing that really counts are the people in your life and what you do with your life. We have a bad habit in our country of letting material wealth become an impediment instead of a blessing.

My dad used to talk like this. I think you make some good points.

I totally agree with that. The problem is when you lose any empathy or even have an apparent clue of how bad it is for some people. How, really, really, bad.

Absolutely, looking down from the Ivory Tower, so to speak.

He wants empathy for his type of stress, the "I want to keep my standard of living stress", but it is so very callus when peope are missing meals for him to want them to feel sorry for him.

It is insulting.

people are missing meals for him to want them to feel sorry for him. ?

I know I've been scanning the post a little fast, but......

Did you get that from the OP.. ????.....Are we reading the same posts ???

No you are misreading. What she is saying is that, when people are missing meals, it is very callous of him to want sympathy because he has two homes and can't afford to make one of them bigger right now.

She's saying that he is basically looking for sympathy from people who have to miss meals in hard times, as opposed to people who have to switch their kids to public school during hard times.

Ehhhh I tried that too......but then I got married.

Yeah...I noticed your Post #6......you make some bad decisions don't you ?

My newly wed wife was a little spender way back where and I cured her by giving her the checkbook and let her watch where and why our money was spent.....
CURED HER IN A MONTH.

From the op...
I even get that on 350 thousand you can't do all of the things you may want to if you have a family and you are looking at second homes, etc. I just don't think it's anything that should elicit pity.

I read just the opposite.....must the the readers perspective....
