We lose our way when we blame Trump for the nurturing of the deplorable troglodytes whom we've [or at least I've] now labelled "trumpanzees."
Trump merely recognized that they were there, in the tens of millions, hiding under their rocks, reluctant to display their ugliness openly.

He gave them his blessing to reveal themselves, and he did it very effectively. He used the protection of his own celebrity status to openly say the spectacularly stupid things
that he says, pushed their buttons effectively, and when the slimy trumpanzees heard him get away with it, and actually profit from it, they slithered out into the open.

Now we can see them, and we're still not rounding them all up, so what's our excuse?

Yup, Republicans for decades have recognized that a significant percent of Republican supporters who did not show up regularly to vote were self loathing and deplorable racist, homophobes, etc who hate the police, the military and free gov'ts. Many of the top Republican strategists have discussed over the years the ways they knew they could motivate them to get out and vote by playing up their victimhood and rage. But they also knew that game might get them short term votes while destroying the Republican party, so they did not do it.

Trump could care less about the Republican party long term. He was a Democrat by natural default prior to becoming the Chief maga deplorable.
