The writers say Hollywood studios are increasingly limiting their roles in television productions, highlighting a trend for white-collar workers.

The separation between writing and production, increasingly common in the streaming era, is one issue at the heart of the strike begun in May by roughly 11,500 Hollywood writers. They say the new approach requires more frequent job changes, making their work less steady, and has lowered writers’ earnings. As I tell people, I'm retarded... err, retired... Twice! To deal with satire and sarcasm, dark humor, snark, puns, and other similar forms of jest, you need to be smart. To be able to make fun of yourself is a sign of maturity. Only the childish and simple can't grasp these concepts.

They have found that sarcasm requires the brain to jump through numerous hoops to arrive at a correct interpretation, requiring more brainpower than literal statements. And although it's often dismissed as juvenile snark, sarcasm is actually evidence of maturity – as it takes years for a child's developing brain to fully grasp and master it.
