Hysteria

Nice attempt at diversion. This thread isn't about minutemen. I read the university apologized to those fascists anyway.

I'm actually pretty sick and tired of bush supporters trying to conflate all "evil" in the world, into simple, easy-to-undertand simplistic talking points for their base.

To date, Bush and his fans have not profered one piece of evidence that Iran has a nuclear weapons program, or that the iranian government is aiding and abetting al qaeda, or that the iranian goverment is actively supporting iraqi insurgents.

I'm no fan of this iranian president. But, I know one thing for certain: Bush lies his ass off.
I notice again that you have ignored other posts that are about this topic in this thread to pretend that this generalization is true about me.

You are disingenuous, speaking of such things during a conversation where the university is mentioned is not so far off topic that it deserves such a response.

One can never dispute your ability to totally ignore years of conversations we have had trashing Bush to pretend that I am some kind of supporter.

It didn't annoy me. I don't give a fuck about it. I don't know how to be any more clear. YOU are annoying me. I'm talking about the deaths that are coming, because of people like you who are too bush going 'he did it tooooooo" to notice what the fuck is going on.

I don't care what happend to the minute men. I have zero interest in the state of free speech at Columbia university. These protests are happening at the UN this morning as well.
Then don't answer. And why did you ask for a link if you didn't care so much?

Have they stormed the stage and actually ended his free speech?

In what way? What could possibly be equal to denying the holocaust in the history of the Irish?

I have no objection to the little troll going anywhere so long as we can live up to the responsibility of keeping him alive while he is here.
Thought I'd bump this, since it is being ignored for posts that people "don't care about".

I have no idea if colombia university was exhibiting the dreaded "liberal hypocrisy". That diversion is getting a little old frankly.

Don't you think that there is a concerted effort in this country, to portray, and conflate (falsely) Iran with 9/11, al qaeda, and the iraqi insurgents - with little to NO proof being offered.

Don't you have a vague feeling in the back of your mind that we've been down this road before?

I always look at it this way. If I was in any nation that didn't already have one, and lived in an area such as the ME, I would certainly work toward any weapon that might make my nation both safer and stronger.
Another quick bump for a post ignored...

Yes, and this morning they have started with the "Iran is supplying Iraq with missiles" thing.

And it's fall.

Didn't one of the bushies say about the Iraqi war, you don't roll out a new marketing campaign in the summer???

Did you read any of my other posts? Do you pretend that they are not there?

Some of these can be answered by my opinion in those posts.

Do I think Iran is the danger that these people seem to think? Clearly not, and had you actually read those posts rather than the ones you "didn't care about". You would know that by now.

Bingo. We're going down the same road, the same marketing campaign, that we did with Iraq. Only this time, its charter member of the axis of evil iran.

You and I didn't fall for the bullshit the first time. I'm alarmed that anyone is falling for it again. Scott Pelley's interview was an abomination. He just parroted bush talking points.

Of course, we'll probably get called pro-iranian traitors, if we dare point out that Bush hasn't produced an iota of evidence for the claim he and his supporters are making. Deja Vu all over again.l

Damo, Tucker Carlson almost every night, tries to squeeze in that he was against the Iraq war...as an aside in between pinning the blame for it on the dems. The thing is, I don't remember him being against the Iraqi war. I'm sure he was...quietly.

I'm sure your'e against the coming bombing, and I believing, nuking, of Iran. But when you spend more time yelling about the minutemen and whatever happened to them at Columbia, and I am starting to wish they had been shot there, then it just relegates your opinion on Iran to a back seat. It's like, yeah I could eat.

I honestly don't know where you stand Damo. I thought I read posts where you've conflated iran and al qaeda, and I thought you had said some alarmist stuff before about Iran's nuke program.

If you thing Bush is lying about the threat from iran now, good on you. Tommorow is a different day.. ;)

I do feel kind of bad that I yelled at you. Iran is a bigger concern of mine than the minute men, sorry.

I believe that we can have a conversation about both, and that mentioning the university pretty much gave me a thought about it, so I added it to the conversation.

I always hate when liberals pretend that we must only speak on the subjects that they approve of, and if we ever go off the approved list that we are "distracting".

It is rubbish, not only did I actually speak on your topic, I added what I thought was an interesting aside. You have spent more time "chastising" me for daring to mention something about one of the subjects of the thread that wasn't in your proscribed list of topics.

Seriously, it is lame to pretend that we can't speak of both of them.

I don't think them getting a nuke would be the end of the world.

Just as I didn't think the WMD in Iraq was as large of a deal as the Admin pretended it was. Even had they had the "WMD" such weapons were a very slim threat indeed to the US.

I just can't pretend to care about it, that's all. It's bullshit.

This is a serious thing. When are you guys going to really wake up? After we, the United States of America, use "preemptive" nukes? What's at stake is only everything. Fuck the minute men.

There is no doubt in my head that we in the US will never use a pre-emptive nuke. And if this admin tries, I will fully support any effort to impeach and remove them from office.

I've got a major problem with them getting a nuke. Nuclear proliferation, regardless of which country it is, is destabilizing to the world at large.

But, I'm frankly sick and tired of the alarmist, and actually false, statements about Iran's nuke program coming from Bush and the rightwing media. They're acting like its a foregone conclusion that Iran is building nuclear weapons. And if they repeat that statement often enough, it will become "true" in the minds of the american people. I can't believe we're going through this crap again. You'd think the media would at least look at the IAEA's website, to see what the rightwingers are saying isn't true.

So, only the "approved" governments get to have the big guns...

Seriously, this is why I would actually be working toward them if I were in his place.

So far, from what I have determined, nukes for Pakistan and India have actually served to calm the Kashmir region.

I'm not saying he is working toward the weapons, I am saying that I don't think it should create even half the hysteria it is if he were. Such a nation knows that if they use it, after they gain it, the signature of the explosion gives them away and that they'll be doomed. They also tend to be less likely to attack neighbors.

I don't like the idea of them getting nukes, because I am looking from outside, but in his place I'd certainly be working towards them.

I don't doubt that there are iranian scientists who do research on nuclear weapons. Heck, they've been doing that since the days of the Shah. Whether they are actually trying weaponize uranium is another issue. One, that Bush might be lying about.

I'll leave the debate about which countries should have nukes, and which shouldn't to the realm of theoretical discussion. Of course nukes are bad news. Which is why they shouldn't proliferate to other countries - iran included.

Do we have ethical, moral, and in fact legal obligations to disarm our nukes? Indeed. But, that could be a whole other thread.
