I actually defended this dope

Lance Armstrong denies everything.

Lance may have put his foot in it, but I'm going to keep calling the anti-doping administration al-Usada.
We will see. The surface has just been scratched. If Armstrong had not hurt, damaged or destroyed so many people I'd be rather sympathetic. Right now he's comming off as a narcissist who has great difficulty feeling empathy towards others.

You cannot deny that cycling has been rife with doping for a very long time, I can recall Tommy Simpson dying in the Tour de France back in 1967. The post mortem examination found that he had taken amphetamine and alcohol, a diuretic combination which proved fatal when combined with the heat, the hard climb of the Ventoux and a stomach complaint.

Oh good lord yes. I read an old interview of the great Italian rider Fausto Copi from back in the late 40's and he was talking about the use of Amphetamines back then. I'm pretty sure the use of drugs in pro cycling go way back to it's beginning. Some of the events (Paris Roubaix comes to mind) are just so freaking inhumane that riders not only take drugs for competative advantage but to just survive.

To put things into perspective the greatest cyclist of all times, Eddy Merckx, was busted several times for taking amphetamines.

And now they are trying to claw back all his sponsorship money! OK, I can go with that BUT to quote from our poor christian friends' guidebook:

Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

Sport is being exposed as riddled with corruption. Sport is corrupt. Big business is often corrupt. Politicians are frequently corrupt. Everyone has their price!
So take Armstrongs money BUT take the corrupt gains from everyone else too.
Jeez, there'd be so much money sloshing around no one would ever need to work again!

Did al-Usada's report ever detail any hard evidence against Lance, or has it all been just the testimony of lesser bikers and people with an axe to Grind? I'm tempted to start a conspiracy theory over this one. :D

It's basically what you've stated, over something like 5 years of what I consider hounding him.
If this would have been any other legal situation; there would have been cease and desist orders issued, about 3 years ago.
I didn't watch the Oprah episode, so I'm not sure what was said or suggested.
