I am dissapointed in President Obama.

It's funny how posters like Yurt & bravs want to give all kinds of credit to Bush on Iraq, but don't want to give him responsibility for creating the mess and instigating one of the worst foreign policy disasters in modern history.

There is no credit and there is no blame.....I'm just telling you what happened.....

Its undeniable that Bush went to Congress and they voted .....without the Democrats that voted YES there would have been no war.....and the everyone bloviating for the last few years would have had to stfu about Saddam and WMD .......and it was rather a success instead of the disaster you claim....

You don't blame anyone for the catastophe that is Iraq? Really?

The whole war "just happened"?

Nah - you're not rewriting history or anything....

And I still have the Downing Street memo showing that bush's reasons for invading were as phony as a three-dollar bill.

"The Downing Street "Memo" is actually the minutes of a meeting, transcribed during a gathering of many of the British Prime Minister's senior ministers on July 23, 2002. Published by The Sunday Times on May 1, 2005 this document was the first hard evidence from within the UK or US governments that exposed the truth about how the Iraq war began.

Since that time, much more information has come to light through leaks of secret government documents and the accounts of an increasing number of people who have witnessed the administration’s wrongdoing firsthand."

There is now in the public record a large body of evidence that vividly illustrates:

Well good for you......you can use it to wipe.....the fact is, your "large body of evidence" consists of the opinions of others, which isn't evidence at all.
Its opinion from those suffering with BDS and created by our political enemies

That #3 bullet is so much crap....You could say the war began in the Clinton administration with an air campaign that was ongoing for years under Clinton

the fact is, the United States has 16 intelligence agencys that pool their information, analyze it, and make recommendations to our Presidents......
our Presidents don't make foreign policy decisions on "someones' memos from the UK" or any other country for that matter......and we still don't to this day.

No matter what you THINK Bush's intentions were, HE ASKED FOR AND RECEIVED A BI-PARTISAN VOTE TO USE FORCE AGAINST

IRAQ to insure he complied with the numerous "unanimous resolutions passed by the United Nations".....and only after receiving the

support of Congress did he act against Saddam.....

THIS IS THE DISPUTABLE TRUTH OF THE EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE IRAQ WAR.....

LOL - that last line is definitely Freudian...

Did I say it 'just happened' ? No, of course I didn't...

There was the anti Saddam and the danger of his WMD rhetoric (which EVERYONE BELIEVED HE HAD) that had been going on since 1996......

There was about 20 or more UN resolutions that were passed unanimously by them condemning Saddam and his WMD

There was the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait

There was the Iraq/Iran War....

There were a lot of issues.....

Bush finally went to Congress and they voted FOR the use of force against Saddam.....without the Democrats that voted YES there would have been no war.....

So, no, it didn't just happen......don't try to put words in my mouth.....I'm capable of saying what I mean to say....

If you can prove some part not the truth, I'm listening.....facts only please, not opinion, yours or others...

Hilarious, you make up your own facts, called opinions, yet demand facts of others, then you ignore them for nine years. You are very comical and good for a belly laugh.

Yet the bushies refused to confirm or deny what was in the DS memo.

"In May, Rep John Conyers (D-MI)submitted a letter to President Bush signed by 94 House members requesting answers to 5 questions about Downing Street Memo disclosures. (See questions below.)

White House press secretary Scott McClellan said that there is "no need" to respond to the letter.

The Five Questions Posed to President Bush in Congressional Letter:

In addition to 94 US House members, 500,000 American citizens have signed Rep John Conyers, Jr's letter to President Bush. The 5 questions asked in the letter were..... 1. Do you or anyone in your administration dispute the accuracy of the leaked documents?
2. Were arrangements being made, including the recruitment of allies. before you sought Congressional authorization to go to war? Did you or anyone in your administration obtain Britian's commitment to invade prior to this time?
3. Was there an effort to create an ultimatum about weapons inspectors in order to help with the justification for the war, as the minutes indicate?
4. At what point in time did you and Prime Minister Blair first agree it was necessary to invade Iraq?
5. Was there a coordinated effort with the US intelligence community and/or British officials to "fix" the intelligence and facts around the policy as the leaked document states?

And of course, there wasn't any need to respond....Bush gave the memo all the respect and consideration it deserved.....nothing

Maybe someone should write a memo questioning Obama's birth certificate and selective service card oddities and question how he traveled to the Middle East as a student.....or ask to see his college records......or his thesis.....etc.........see if Obama responds to the 'memo'......or will he give it the same consideration Bush gave the DS memo......

I think it will be the latter......don't you ?
====================
I"ll answer for Bush......

IRRELEVANT....if the resolution did not pass there would be no force used against Saddam....if it did pass, we would be one step ahead

3. Was there an effort to create an ultimatum about weapons inspectors in order to help with the justification for the war, as the minutes indicate? NO

4. At what point in time did you and Prime Minister Blair first agree it was necessary to invade Iraq? It was not a necessity, it was an option to be considered and decided upon

5. Was there a coordinated effort with the US intelligence community and/or British officials to "fix" the intelligence and facts around the policy as the leaked document states?
I can't speak for others in the US intelligence or British intelligence community.....ask them directly

Cute, how the "MEMO" has now be elevated to "the document"........makes it sound so official and sinister and important beyond a mere "memo"......

Would you accept bravo's characterization that Congress forced Bush's hand on war, and that it was called the "war resolution"?

Not at all. Congress gave Bush squirm room and Bush took it. It was Congress's way of being able to take credit if it worked out and to avoid blame if it did not. Basically the typical chicken shit type stance we see from the two parties in DC.

Funny that you just thanked a post from Jarod where he was making shit up. Why is that Rana?
