I hate to say I told you so....

It might help you understand better if you follow my reasoning instead of creating one for me.

Free speech and freedom of religion don't have anything to do with it.

The CEO freely spoke about what and who he doesn't like. Nobody stopped him from doing that.

What you don't like are the business consequences of his freely-spoken opinion. You'd like to pretend that he should get to say whatever the Hell he wants, and no matter how offensive it may be, no consequences should come from what he said.

That's a fairly naive view of the world.

I FULLY support a politician ensuring that the homophobic comments of a CEO does not trickle down to company hiring practices in his district, and I FULLY support a politician taking a stand for the citizens in his district.

You don't support that .. I get that. But you present a false argument .. that the CEO was somehow kept from free speech. He wasn't.

Frre speech ain't always free .. especially when it comes to business.
Bravo sir. A most eloquent refutation.

Frankly, it doesn't matter if you don't get it. They accomplished exactly what they set out to. You just don't get it.

“The WinShape Foundations is now taking a much closer look at the organizations it considers helping, and in that process will remain true to its stated philosophy of not supporting organizations with political agendas,” Chick-fil-A’s senior director of real estate said in a letter to Moreno.

---

Along with re-evaluating funding to anti-gay marriage activist groups, Moreno said, Chick-fil-A has agreed to amend its corporate policy to include sexual orientation in its anti-discrimination policy.

“The company today has put into writing, for the first time, that its employees are to ‘treat every person with honor, dignity and respect — regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, sexual orientation and gender. .. our intent is not to engage in political or social debates,” Moreno said in a statement.

The alderman has ensured that the homophobic mindset of its CEO does not show up in its hiring practices .. AND, that's not just going to be watched in his district, it's going to be watched everywhere Chick Fila does business or hires people.

But you claim nothing was accomplished.

You don't know what you're talking about.

You don't get it. Most of this was just for PR purposes.

The hiring practices change I applaud and is likely required under the laws of Illinois. As I mentioned the alderman had every right to obstruct there and the courts would have likely supported him.

The stuff about where they give their money... that is just nonsense and part of the show.

And for the record... I don't see a quarterly earnings statement showing the Chick lost money. That's what you need to show "bad for business" here, and it's missing. What you have shown, is that Christians are able to make reasonable compromises with people who have a problem with them. You've also shown that non-Christians, when capitulated to, or appeased, are complete assholes and jerks who want to continue being divisive.

It might hep you understand better if you actually read what I write instead of creating comments for me. Sound familiar?

I have stated multiple times that I have no problem with boycotts from citizens, private groups etc... expressing their dislike for his comments by refusing to do business with him. That is fine.

Now try to pay attention, because THIS is the part you continue to ignore...

1) IT IS NOT FINE FOR A POLITICIAN TO PUNISH A BUSINESS BASED ON THE RELIGIOUS VIEWS OF AN INDIVIDUAL.

2) The business does not have any discriminatory practices, the business does not refuse to serve gay people... the politician is punishing an business because that politician doesn't like the views of an individual who runs the business.

If a politician refused to let you open a business because you expressed support of abortion... what would your response be?

That's a fairly naive view of the world.

Its also a view that you made up in its entirety.

You don't get it Dixie. It isn't always the PnL statement that indicates that some comment or action is bad for a companies business. As we've seen here the mere perception that your business is bigoted can cause problems, such as permitting difficulties or greater government scrutiny that your business might be violating peoples rights. You have to be an idiot or have your head buried in the sand to not recognize that this is not good for your business. I see nothig wrong with an alderman, based on Chik Fil A's public reputation of bigotry towards gays, scrutinizing their business practices to assure they are not violating the rights of workers in his/her district. I seriously doubt that any competent business owner would welcome such scrutiny nor consider it a good business practice to make public statements that would encourage such government scrutiny. You'd have to be a collosal moron to not recognize that this is not good for your business.

And even though Chick-fil-a has never discriminated in their business practices, towards gays or anyone else, they took the measures requested by activists to appease their concerns, and for their trouble, they get YOU rubbing their nose in it, like you've "won" some kind of argument! You didn't "told us so" anything, you fucking moron.

He brought that on himself. His company will suffer for his hate. I am guessing there will be a name change soon or a "bankruptcy" filing . Old Sambo's is still selling artery clogging crap to fat white morons after all. The new brand will have to lower the quality of their food in order to meet the demands of their new customer base. But there is always a market for crap.

Capitalism and hate don't mix well. They never have, they never will. When will its so called champions learn? Maybe, when they meet their maker.

Parting of the Sensory...

SF, you and bac are fighting over little. As FactsRStubborn pointed out it will not stop him from supporting whatever he chooses. Money is fungible. That's why CFR is really really stupid.

I just finished reading Thy Kingdom Come: How the Religious Right Distorts the Faith and Threatens America. I think you recommended it? Someone here did, that's how I heard about it. The writer identifies as a fundamentalist yet is still highly critical about the so-called Moral Majority and its preachers.

Eye opener, huh!

I like the story about Michael Jordan, he had just signed a lucrative contract with Nike, when asked why he didn't speak out against Strom Thurmund, he replied, "Republicans buy shoes, too"

Business and politics, shouldn't be mixed!

He brought WHAT on himself? I don't see ANY evidence that Chick-Fil-A is in any sort of financial trouble, or even an indication their business suffered! I'll bet you money, they probably realized an INCREASE in profits over this, if anything. The ONLY detail you have, is the fact that they made some concessions and changes with regard to wording in their company statements and whatnot, to satisfy gay activist groups... fucking imagine that? Rigid hardcore bigoted Christians, accommodating those who had a problem! What do they get for their efforts to reach out? SLAPPED IN THE FACE by morons like you and Mott! You just can't help continuing to bash and trash them, even when they go along with what you claim will make things right!

I think it serves as an outstanding example, NOT of their rigidity and intolerance, but YOURS!

Waaaaiiit for it! Stuff your face to keep yourself entertained and confused. You are good at that.

Until then, I will still need a place to piss and fart. Subway and water makes me gassy sometimes and I need more breaks than ever. :)

When you go extinct and your toxins can only poison the ground (instead of young minds) or create new oil (which by then won't be needed much), THEN I will be done.

But I can wait.

Yeah, and Michael laughed all the way to the bank. But, I bet he did not eat at Sambo's (Denny's).

Michael Jordan is still a hero and Strom...

In other words, you can't answer the question, and you plan to continue demagoguing. Got it! Thanks!

He is going to suffer financially. You think a few months later it's all over? That's becasue you are fat lazy and easily distracted by the next piece of spam that lands in you inbox and sends you off to spread more misinformation and lies.

Nope, I will never eat there again, and I use to like it as a halfway healthy choice.

But, Everybody Poops! Especially grandpa's!

The children love those stories, because they can giggle and it does not make them feel dirty for being human.

Dinosaur's marching to their graves...

This does not mean every old person. Many of you will live on. Not the dinosaurs.

The difference is Michael avoided dirtying himself with hate. He wins! Every time. And here so many thought it was just his "natural" talents. No. He was a hard worker and smart.

As I stated before, you don't really offer much to this board do you?

Mutt is making excuses for the abuse of political power. He is essentially stating that business owners should expect political retribution if they dare speak their religious or political views. It is a pathetic attitude to take and quite idiotic, as I stated.

I know this is hard for you to comprehend as you really don't care what is being discussed, you just pipe in with more of your own ignorance. I understand that compared to you Mutt is quite intelligent. But compared to the average person, Mutt is still an idiot from Ohio.

Oh cry me a river...

I'm supposed to feel bad because the guy who JUST posted this:

Wow... you truly are an idiot.

...thinks he's got room to lecture others about what they "offer to the board"

Again we find SF believes it's perfectly acceptable FOR HIM to be insulting, but heaven help them if someone decides to give SF back the same derision he dishes every day.

Actually Jordan took a lot of heat from black activists who thought he should use his fame and power to help out the black community more and not just sit back and worry about his bank account.
