Too late.
Whether they "want" it or not, is irrelevant. The fact is that probably the majority of americans who do have comprehensive health benefits, currently ARE already on some sort of publically funded healthcare program - whether it be SCHIP, Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, VA, or Federal Employee Health Program.... and these publically funded programs are equivalent to, or superior than, the crap HMOs that employees of Walmart or JiffyLube have.
I just looked up some numbers chap.
You can claim americans don't "want" publically financed healthcare.
It doesn't matter what they "want". A huge number, perhaps even a majority of the insured demographic, ALREADY take and accept publically financed healthcare.
Medicare has over 40 million recipients.
Medicaid has over 30 million recipients.
SCHIP has, what, maybe ten million at least?
FEHBP has about ten million.
VA - I don't know. But, its got to be in the millions.
TRICARE: Who knows, but its got to be in the millions too.
And should we count public school teachers, firemen, police, local and state employees? Thats got to be way over ten million at least.
