If Mittens can win mod/ind vote..why isn't he?

We are told by the establishment republicans, Mitt Romney is the only candidate who can beat Obama. It is reasoned to be the case, that Mitt can better appeal to the "moderate independent" voter. However, in Michigan, Santorum is taking flack today for going after the moderate indie voter, and according to the polls, succeeding! If Mittens is the one who can appeal to the moderates and indies, why isn't he doing it in Michigan?

I keep seeing these mild indicators that Santorum is certainly not as un-electable as we've been lead to believe. A year ago, you would have been laughed out of the room to predict Santorum would ultimately be the nominee. We still hear the establishment and liberals... desperately SCREAMING that Santorum can't win... as he continues to WIN! I mean, when does it stop being a fluke?

I am more curious why people are not outraged at the media's attempt to undercut and deny Ron Paul's campaign. Did any of the media report the march in DC for Ron Paul? Anyone care to guess how many veterans were there? I didn't see it carried by any news organization.

If you dislike Ron Paul that is fine. But even someone who hates him should be outraged by the media's attempt to decide who gets elected and who does not, and who gets coverage and who gets selectively ignored.

Probably because Michigan is a closed primary. Meaning that all registered independents cannot vote in it.

not quite true.......when I went in to vote today I was asked if I wanted a Republican, a Democratic or a non-affiliated ballot......I could have chosen any one of the three and voted.....they did not take a blood sample so they could check I never voted differently either before or after today......(assuming that voting Democrat would at the very least, taint my blood forever).......of course, things may be different here, as we all know both the Democrats that live in town.....

here they have to cross county lines to get enough Democrats to have a Party.....

a while back, up to the City Diner, the boys set up a card table in the men's room, in front of the urinal......they put a cup of coffee on it and a sign, Democratic Caucus.......

i don't think primaries are the best example of independents voting. i'm pretty sure they are out in greater force for the national election. not party elections.

I'm sure you are exactly right, and I also believe it is a bit disingenuous to ignore Santorum is potentially appealing to democrats who believe he has no chance against Obama, but those same people believe Obama can't be beat, even by Romney, so why is Santorum able to appeal to them? And doesn't this all fly in the face of conventional wisdom? If Mittens can't pull some "moderate/indie/dem" vote in his proverbial "home state," where the hell can he depend on these moderates and independents?

Where can Santorum get them?

did i ignore that?

how is michigan his home state?

I thought Democrats in Michigan were trying something similar to Rush's Operation Chaos by sending Dems to the polls to vote for Santorum?

No, you didn't ignore that, it just hadn't been said, and I wanted to point it out before some pinhead did.

Michigan is where the young Mittens grew up, his dad was Governor. He is their native son!

you have a point about his home state...i thought it was more about where he was governor, but you have a good point.

i know people will probably disagree with me, but i was against that kind of voting then as am i now. while there is nothing illegal about it, i find it not in harmony with our principles of this great republic.

i have no idea what this means, but it sounds totally awesome!!!!

:D

No one would have an idea of what it means because nothing of awesomeness has ever come out of the state of Michigan so it is not possible for the human mind to wrap itself around such a concept.

Because, stupid, the "moderate indie voter" includes lots of democrats that are voting strategically against mitt romney because they know what a total failure santorum will be in the general. Romney being able to court independent voters isn't some pie in the sky assertion, it's on record, it's already happened. He won massachusetts in 2002. He just needs to get out of the mouth breather portion of the race before he can go back to being normal.

thread over.
