An unconventional coffee shop in California is finding itself at the center of controversy — yet again — as a result of its servers’ skimpy styles.

At a meeting on Tuesday, city council members in American Canyon voted unanimously to revoke a license granted to Bottoms Up Espresso, after critics argued that the “bikini barista” coffee shop was operating more like an adult business than a café.

The coffee shop, which has multiple locations in the Bay Area, originally secured its American Canyon location in December,*SF Gate reported.

City officials claim they received complaints about the servers’ outfits following the store’s opening, prompting a community director to speak with the owner.

“I met with one of the owners on Jan. 4, 2019 who informed me that he intends to require the employees at the American Canyon store to wear costumes that are as revealing as the costumes worn on staff at other Bottoms Up Espresso stores,” community director Brent Cooper had previously said,*according to the Vallejo Times-Herald. “The business owner provided a ‘dress code.’ The costumes in the ‘dress code’ are revealing to a degree that the business meets the definition of an adult business per the city’s Municipal Code.”

According to the SF Gate, the city’s municipal code also requires workers to cover specific “anatomical areas” of the body, including the buttocks, the pubic area, and the breasts below the areola. Otherwise, it may be classified as an adult-entertainment establishment.

The owner of Bottoms Up, Nate Wilson, told Fox News he felt the “city has gone beyond the law” with its ruling, but will “move on from that location” regardless.

“We have decided to move on from that location due to the fact the city will waste a bunch of taxpayers’ money to fight us in court, where if we wanted to make a point would win. We do not fall into ‘adult entertainment’ as they suggest. The license was revoked before we even opened or went to any appeals. The city is acting beyond their powers and shows you how even small government abuses their powers.”

Bottoms Up had previously come under scrutiny before opening its Chico location, and specifically its proximity to a dance school.

At the time, owner Nate Wilson argued that the baristas weren’t wearing anything Californians wouldn’t see on a beach.

“We are a very classy business and pride ourselves on customer service and quality drinks. We have dress codes that expose less then you would see at a pool or beach,” CEO Nate Wilson told Fox News.

Chico Mayor Sean Morgan had also called Bottoms Up’s Chico location “unfortunate,” but ultimately said the business was not violating city code.

Nate Wilson co-founded the first Bottoms Up Espresso location in Modesto, Calif., in 2011. He confirmed to Fox News there are at least a dozen other locations under development in the Sacramento area, along with more in Arizona.

The article named much more conservative areas like Sacramento, where the shops are doing just fine.

Why is the ultra liberal SF Bay area the one place where they've faced hurdles for skimpy attire?

From what I understand, during gay pride parades, men and women alike prance down the street bare naked in broad daylight, yet the gals who staff these places wear standard beach and public swimming pool attire.

I'm a bit confused here. :dunno:

I find toned women's physiques as appealing as anyone.
But I would feel a little like a loser going into a bikini coffee bar.
My friends in the oil patch dragged me to Hooters once, and I had the same feeling.

I have plenty of opportunities to see women's bodies on my own terms. I personally just think it would make me feel weird to slither into a bikini car wash or lingerie coffee bar. Is it really about the car wash or the coffee? Obviously not!

Same here. I felt like a loser when I got dragged in to a titty bar.
Plus half the enjoyment of naked titties is the thrill of the chase.

I never felt comfortable in topless bars either, which is why I rarely went to them except for the times when I was with a group and had to go wherever they went.

But just going into a coffee shop where young girl servers behind the counter wear bikinis would be no problem. Just don't stare at them.

Or certain parts of them..... :whome:

Still doesn't address my question I the OP about why this place is facing such opposition in an urban area where supposedly, anything goes?

It just reveals the REAL PROBLEM...…...normal sexual more's don't exist in San Fran. If you are not queer or illegal you have no personal rights.

Where did it say in the article that lesbian women or transgenders weren't allowed to work there?

What is the sexual orientation of the girl pictured in the article?

For all you know, she might get more women in a week than you've had in your life.

That's a great deal of ASSUMPTION. LMAO. I merely pointed out that the state of California and the city of San Francisco are the greatest enablers of Queerness and Criminal migrants in the United States of America. (a close second would be the great northwest broke back cities) "NORMAL" is having a room full of scantly glad females serve the heterosexual males. Abnormal would be attempting to declare this immoral while the queers and the criminals are protected by the state. Just say'n…...the truth is a most difficult thing to swallow for any queer enabler....as demonstrated. :bigthink:

That’s right Ralph. It’s a gay conspiracy to prevent young men from learning how to admire the finer qualities of a woman’s derrière.

Uh no...the truth isn’t the hardest thing they have to swallow. That’s why so many of them are spitters but you know what I think Ralph? Spitters are quitters.

I don't drink coffee but if I went to one of these shops and saw the young ladies dressed like that I'd feel compelled to come back with sweaters or something so the poor things wouldn't freeze to death. lol

Yea. If, as the article states, the establishment offers quality product, you would think that the gimmick isn't necessary?

Nothing to be confused about. American Canyon is a City of 20K people over an hour away from San Francisco. You already have three liberal men, including yourself, saying this isn't your thing ITT. So why the surprise that another area that votes the same as you would feel the same?
