If the San Francisco Bay area is supposed to be so amoral and liberal...

I don't drink coffee but if I went to one of these shops and saw the young ladies dressed like that I'd feel compelled to come back with sweaters or something so the poor things wouldn't freeze to death. lol

"The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer I spent in San Francisco" - Mark Twain

Yea. If, as the article states, the establishment offers quality product, you would think that the gimmick isn't necessary?

Gimmick is a good word for it.

Is there really a dearth of opportunities for us dudes to see women in bikinis?

I almost feel like I couldn't respect myself if I let some business man dangle the prospect of bikinis in front of me to dupe me into buying a crappy and undoubtedly expensive cup of joe. Its the kind of business that caters to suckers!

Nothing to be confused about. American Canyon is a City of 20K people over an hour away from San Francisco. You already have three liberal men, including yourself, saying this isn't your thing ITT. So why the surprise that another area that votes the same as you would feel the same?

According to Google Maps, it's 25 - 30 miles as the crow flies.

That kind of distance pretty much falls within the "metro area" range.

But still, the right is always calling the SF area a bastion of no moral values where no level of debauchery is considered off limits, yet here just a short drive from this supposed modern day Sodom and Gomorrah, they won't even let young women serve coffee in bathing suits.

Sounds like maybe some people have been exaggerating just a bit for awhile now.

....then can anyone explain this?

An unconventional coffee shop in California is finding itself at the center of controversy — yet again — as a result of its servers’ skimpy styles.

At a meeting on Tuesday, city council members in American Canyon voted unanimously to revoke a license granted to Bottoms Up Espresso, after critics argued that the “bikini barista” coffee shop was operating more like an adult business than a café.

The coffee shop, which has multiple locations in the Bay Area, originally secured its American Canyon location in December,*SF Gate reported.

City officials claim they received complaints about the servers’ outfits following the store’s opening, prompting a community director to speak with the owner.

“I met with one of the owners on Jan. 4, 2019 who informed me that he intends to require the employees at the American Canyon store to wear costumes that are as revealing as the costumes worn on staff at other Bottoms Up Espresso stores,” community director Brent Cooper had previously said,*according to the Vallejo Times-Herald. “The business owner provided a ‘dress code.’ The costumes in the ‘dress code’ are revealing to a degree that the business meets the definition of an adult business per the city’s Municipal Code.”

According to the SF Gate, the city’s municipal code also requires workers to cover specific “anatomical areas” of the body, including the buttocks, the pubic area, and the breasts below the areola. Otherwise, it may be classified as an adult-entertainment establishment.

The owner of Bottoms Up, Nate Wilson, told Fox News he felt the “city has gone beyond the law” with its ruling, but will “move on from that location” regardless.

“We have decided to move on from that location due to the fact the city will waste a bunch of taxpayers’ money to fight us in court, where if we wanted to make a point would win. We do not fall into ‘adult entertainment’ as they suggest. The license was revoked before we even opened or went to any appeals. The city is acting beyond their powers and shows you how even small government abuses their powers.”

Bottoms Up had previously come under scrutiny before opening its Chico location, and specifically its proximity to a dance school.

At the time, owner Nate Wilson argued that the baristas weren’t wearing anything Californians wouldn’t see on a beach.

“We are a very classy business and pride ourselves on customer service and quality drinks. We have dress codes that expose less then you would see at a pool or beach,” CEO Nate Wilson told Fox News.

Chico Mayor Sean Morgan had also called Bottoms Up’s Chico location “unfortunate,” but ultimately said the business was not violating city code.

Nate Wilson co-founded the first Bottoms Up Espresso location in Modesto, Calif., in 2011. He confirmed to Fox News there are at least a dozen other locations under development in the Sacramento area, along with more in Arizona.

The article named much more conservative areas like Sacramento, where the shops are doing just fine.

Why is the ultra liberal SF Bay area the one place where they've faced hurdles for skimpy attire?

From what I understand, during gay pride parades, men and women alike prance down the street bare naked in broad daylight, yet the gals who staff these places wear standard beach and public swimming pool attire.

I'm a bit confused here. :dunno:

I'll help you out a little more with your confusion. If you want to see the real action in the Bay Area you go to San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley. You don't go to the wealthy suburbs where people vote liberal but are nothing but a bunch of NIMBY's, nor do you go to the small towns/city's like American Canyon which are generally full of working class people priced out of closer suburbs by NIMBY's.

On any given day in San Francisco you will see an old naked man walking down the street. During the Pride Parade you will see naked men everywhere. During the Bay to Breakers you will see plenty of naked people. You will occasionally see groups of people riding bikes naked together. But that's San Francisco, not some small City that while only 35 miles away can take an hour and a half to get to in rush hour.

So what's with this obsession of yours with naked men????

You sure seem to talk about them quite a bit!!!!

I was never a fan of 'look but don't touch'. Topless bars 'ain't my thing'.

It does seem rather cruel, to both parties. If I'm gonna parade around dressed like that, there damn well better be some touching. Hopefully with a nice warm comforter with a nice warm man inside of it. lol

Unless you are into OLD naked guys I wouldn’t recommend it

No younger ones with a little meat left on their bones?

What IS it with old guys wanting to let it all hang out, anyways? One of my favorite memories of my late husband was the time we went to Florida for a week, the year before he passed. He was really reluctant to go because he hated flying (even though he worked for Frontier for years), and because he couldn't take his beloved weed with him. He did however look forward to lounging around on the beach, swimming, and hopefully seeing some thongs. Lots of thongs. He talked a lot about the thongs. So one afternoon my sister and I were lazing in our lounge chairs on the beach, while husband floated in his inner tube out in the blue waters. An elderly man walked slowly by us. We stopped chatting, the drink straws fell out of our mouths, and we gaped at him. I waved at husband and pointed to the guy, who then slowly turned his backside towards the ocean, bent down, and showed us his..... thong. Very tiny thong. NOT what he was hoping for. lol

I went to high school where the drinking age was still 18.
Can you imagine our astonishment when we found out we could go into strip clubs, once we turned 18? Holy smoke!
It was a heart-racing experience the first couple times! But the novelty wore off pretty quick for me.

A lot of my buddies in the oil industry used to go to "gentlemen's clubs" on lunch break. You would not believe how many "gentlemen's clubs" were in Houston in the 1990s. You could not throw a rock without hitting one! To each their own, but not really my thing to do on lunch break, I preferred other times and venues to pursue the fairer sex!

A big political debate occurred in the Castro district a few years back over whether naked men could eat in restaurants and then could they eat without putting a towel down on the chair. Ultimately it was voted unanimously they couldn’t eat in the restaurants. Since we are fans on this board of discussing the way we use certain words there were some, not many but definitely some, that called our progressive supervisors who all voted no reactionary conservatives. Pretty funny.

I don't think that it's a secret that many diners/restaurants hire pretty waitresses in order to attract the lonely guy demographic.

This takes that ploy to another level. I can picture the staff delivering beverages to the tables with dollar bills stuck in the bikini bottom.

I never understood it, but then again, my libido has been ridiculously high since adolescence. I laugh at Viagra commercials. I'm waiting for a drug that will allow Stanley to get a little rest once in a while.

I think a lot of guys need to hit the club before they go home, just to put themselves in the mood. I could NEVER imagine getting myself all worked up at lunch.

This doesn’t mean the city isn’t amoral

Such flawed logic
