How about if we take drawing districts away from politicians? If every district was drawn as a square or rectangle and not these rigged safe districts, then I would actually prefer this for every state. But as long as we allow these safe seats, we are simply going to get more and more polarized.
I'm in favor of apportioning electoral votes based on the popular vote and not based upon congressional districts. Smaller rural communities are all ready grossly over represented in our legislatures at both the State and National level. Republicans attempting to make these changes are just avoiding the reality of changing demographics. It's short sighted of them and changing apportionment of EV's will only delay the inevitable. It would only alienate more demographics. As more and more tax dollars will be apportioned away from urban regions where most of the population lives and into rural regions. This would only shift the balance of power in the suburbs from Repubs to Dems at a faster rate.
Politically in the long haul it's a bad idea and Republicans would be better served in facing the reality of changing demographics then by using such desperate tactics as changing apportionments in a desperate attempt to cling to power.
I mean think about it, Republicans are essentially advocating a permanent rural minority governing our nation. That's just simply not going to fly.
