What we pay in taxes is largely hidden.
Your income tax, but also what you pay in Social Security/Medicare tax, comes straight out of your check - if you work as a wage slave and/or earn enough.
If you own a house and make payments, property tax is normally paid through your mortgage.
When you have to write a check for these things because you are self-employed, or own your home outright, this all hits very different.
If everyone had to pay their taxes this way, everything would change in a hurry.
