ignorance of a law is no excuse, la school violated the law

The idea that ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law is stupid. How can you be expected to follow a law you have no knowlege of?

it is the responsibility of citizens to know and comply with all relevant laws

if a given law is obscure, then a judge may, at the judges' discretion, allow a plea of ignorance

the law that the subject institution violated was title IX

title IX is a federal law effecting all educational institutions - educational institutions are required to comply with title IX requirements

an educational institution that is not aware of title IX is both rare and has incompetent administrators

oh well

Nobody can know all the laws in this country. There are just to many.

we are still required to obey them, most do not apply unless we are dealing with some special application of the law like corporate law, real estate, personal estate, construction, contracts etc. in which case it is best to hire a lawyer or other specialist

By familiarizing yourself with them...surely they could have checked don't you think? Common sense would have dictated they check unless they had such a hard on to exercise their religious rights that they couldn't contain themselves.
