When I see a rape and torture and murder like this, or a gang rape like the one in Ohio, or any act of violence like these, I am shaken inside. I cry. These women, all of them, are me. I am them. I feel that all Americans need to read "Dark End of the Street: Black women, Rape, and Resistance" which chronicles the systemic use of rape as a terrorist tactic in the apartheid south. It's important history to know because this history still echoes through to today, in every way. There is no way to read this book without crying many times, and feeling crumpled on the ground next to the victims. Because they are me, I am them.

This is the true feeling of sisterhood, that I believe is similar to what BAC means when he calls people here "brother". Few seem to understand it and many mock it "the sistahs" dripping with their hate. But that is what it is. It is not an ideology, it is not intellectual, it is not plotting against men...it is a feeling, not a thought. A feeling at the most visceral level that I am her and she is me.

Lets face it, The whole region had been a war zone with land changing sides for hundreds of years, Hell some sections of territory that they captured from the Byzantine Empire had only 5 years earlier been Persian land, So give up the argument that the Muslims where the aggressive bunch, The Christians had a couple hundred years jump on them.

Actually, Looking into it back then was not uncommon for both Jewish and Muslim's to band together when fighting off the crusader's. Has been said by many scholar's that Mohammad preferred not to fight and that would only fight if there was no other option. He even went so far as to include both Jewish and Christian people in the governments of several cities they controlled so for a militant group they appear to have been very progressive for there time.

Bravo, It may be the way you have worded your posts that have led to Darla's view of you. Perhaps you could spell out your view's black and white as could Darla with out criticizing one another to find where both of you stand with out any of this religious or political BS involved.

Me personally? I don't view the Islamic faith as the issue, But the interpretation of it. Looking up the passage in the Qur'an that talks about hitting there wife's it does not say that specifically, In fact there are many differing translations with a vast majority supporting the principle that beatings should be used only as a last resort and that such beatings were apparently never encouraged by Allah, In fact he suggested a light shove or hard pinch according to some sources. Admittedly Islam is living in the past, But they are making advances and it was not so long ago Christianity was not so civilized. So really it is more of a social matter that affects all nations be they Christian, Jewish, Muslim etc etc What we need to learn to do is not blame the religion or use it as an excuse, But band together globally to work out solutions.. A joint global fight is likely to have more of an impact then separate dis organized national ones.
