Harris town hall nets CNN more than 3 million viewers

That figure is more than three times the audience CNN’s slate of prime-time programming typically nets in a single hour.

Wednesday night’s town hall was part of a wider media blitz Harris has been on in the final days of the campaign, including an interview with “60 Minutes,” and stops on “The View” and “The Breakfast Club.”

During the town hall forum, Harris took questions from voters.

Kamala Harris' CNN Town Hall 'Disaster' Called 'The Last Straw for a lot of Democrats'

“For Democratic pundits trying to be poker-faced, they are clearly feeling what a lot of Democratic donors are feeling and Democratic elected officials are feeling, which is there’s no time left for her to get better,” he said.
“It is clear that she is not really capable right now of answering that question of ‘Why should I be for you?’” he said.

In assessing the town hall, Shadi Hamid, a columnist for The Washington Post, called it “frustrating to watch.”
“The other thing we saw is that she still struggles to answer questions directly and clearly. I think part of the problem is that she doesn’t have strong core convictions, so she often has to calculate what to say instead of just stating what she actually thinks,” Hamid wrote.

I think she talks like a trial lawyer who wants to be precise in her language and tries to separate personal opinions from government issues.

So the joy is gone. She's clearly not having fun.
I suspect she'll be glad when this is over.
She basically had no answer to the question about why she's for the wall now and not before. Something like, "Mexico was supposed to pay for it and they didn't."
She was so lost for answers she almost cried like the time Tulsi got under her skin .

So you say.

Audience question: Is the open border policy of your administration a problem?
Harris: It depends on what the meaning of is, is.
lol

Who does the first quote belong to?

The second one is a wo po person

The border's always been open with restrictions during every administration. AFAIK the US has never had closed borders surrounding it.
You think he understands that?
Of course but you know as well as most anybody (or should) that Biden did away with a lot of most restrictions Trump put in place . Probably out of spite.
Most notably , Remain in Mexico which was working quite well.
Of course after a record number of illegal crossings they tightened things up in 2024. Why do you think they waited until 2024? (You know the answer so if you don't answer I'll understand)

I was looking at some data from Pew Research. It doesn't have 2024 but look how the numbers jumped starting in 2020, before Biden took office. And they're lower now, although not to Obama levels. What I also noticed is that we had peaks in the Reagan years, the Bush years and the last trump year. How is it that the numbers jumped while trump was still in office?

How Biden and Trump compare on border crossings and immigration

The U.S. government does not publish data on the net number of migrants who enter illegally and remain in the country. The main metric U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tracks is how many “encounters” there are between its agents and migrants seeking to cross illegally. (This is a measure of individuals encountered, so if Border Patrol encounters a group of 10 migrants, that counts as 10 encounters.)

Under the Biden administration, there have been 6.4 million encounters outside official ports of entry along the southern border so far, with the yearly average more than quadruple that of the Trump administration, according to a Monitor analysis of CBP data.

In addition, CBP agents have registered more than 1.6 million encounters at official ports of entry with migrants deemed “inadmissible,” some of whom are allowed to temporarily enter the country.

Border Patrol also tracks “gotaways,” migrants seen crossing by border agents who are too occupied to respond, or picked up by cameras and sensors. Those totaled nearly 400,000 for the most recent fiscal year reported, 2021, which is more than double the highest annual total during the Trump administration
