"In NO God do we trust"

No, it has to "respect an establishment" of religion. Again which establishment does this respect?

So far you gave me generalized un-named religion/s and by your own posts have said that it doesn't respect any one establishment.

Jarod....Owned by Damocles....

Classic.

Not a particular religen but mono-theocratic religen. Having, "In God We Trust" as the national motto respects the establishment of all monotheocratic religen over non-religens and multi-theocratic religens.

If the amendment read, "Respect the establishment of "A" religen" you would be correct.
It does not.

It doesn't even suggest monotheistic religions. Polytheists could picture any god they chose in there, and as I said before it certainly doesn't respect an establishment of religion. There is no "an establishment" that the phrase specifically respects. Nor does it stop you from believing as you will, or punish you for not believing as they wish.

None of the things you want to get me to believe it will do are done by, have been done by, or will be done by a few words on a greenback.

Now if it said, "In Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who Appeared to Moroni, And Granted His Prophet Joseph Smith The Ability to Read the Tablets in a Hat, and Who Has Caused Us To Pass Laws Outlawing All Other Religions, We Trust!"

I'd agree with you. But this generic little tidbit that generalizes so hugely it could be considered nearly any religion or dismissed outrightly is not violating any of your rights.

I, finally, see Damocles Constitutional argument.

But I stil belive, while it may not be unconstitutional it still is wrong.

Now on that, we can agree.

Ill tell you what Damo, I have never ever found anyone willing to argue these silly points with me, but it is how I learn. Often in my life I have felt like if someone would just explain to me the opposing argument I would at least understand.

Now, while I may not always end an argument agreeing with you, like I did here. I always walk away understanding your side.

Anyway thanks!

Who, other than myself, would have a problem with "In NO god do we trust" being out national motto?

there was this scene in "300" (don't know if its historically accurate) about an exchange between King Leonides of Sparta and the Ephors, on the eve of the battle of Thermopolea, that pretty much sums up how I feel:

-Ephor Priest: "Trust in the Gods, Leonides"

-King Leonides: "I prefer that you trusted in your reason"

Everyone knows that 300 was a metaphor for the Iraq War.

Bush is Leonidas, and the Ephors are the Democrats.
