Inauguration

Um, don't you guys realize that this is the first step in President Obama's stimulus package? Or, maybe it was a bailout of the catering/entertainment businesses in Washington? I can't exactly remember which one.

Four days of festivities may be a bit much, but it's his call and his party. I don't begrudge that. Certainly there is a lot of hypocrisy from some of his supporters and what they said/wrote about Bush's inauguration in 2004, but heh, let it be. The country is about to settle into the rest of winter with little good news.

I wonder if Hollywood is going to start making musicals soon?

I don't begrudge him his party either as long as the citizens of the U.S. are not paying for it. This is an historic event. I didn't vote for BHO but I pray only the best for him and his administration over the next four or eight years.

I must say though that I am darned glad I don't have to be there. Not only the crowds and the politicians that will be there, but it is going to be darned cold to boot!

Glad I'm in Tampa. :clink:

LOL! Wish I were in Tampa! Brrrr here too, but so much better than last week. :clink: I'd love to be there, but couldn't take the crowds. I don't care which part is taking power, the ceremony itself would bring me to tears.

I was going to go to DC this weekend if my friend could score me a ticket to an awesome event. But I got no such luck, so I'll be spending the say around the corner at a moveon.org meet up at someone's house.

Listen, f all these whiners here. I was having mixed feelings about going, because it would be cold and crowded. It was the best thing I ever did. I couldn't even describe how incredible it was.

i am not familiar with redstate...got it from yahoo/AP

The price tag for President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration gala is expected to break records, with some estimates reaching as high as $150 million. Despite the bleak economy, however, Democrats who called on President George W. Bush to be frugal four years ago are issuing no such demands now that an inaugural weekend of rock concerts and star-studded parties has begun.

Too bad this is bullshit, but I'm not surprised to see YOU spreading it Yurt.

That 150 million number includes security costs. The bush figures released by the jackass media, don't include security costs.

The costs of both inaugurations sans security costs? Almost exactly the same.

I have no doubt that the 12% of diehide freaks left who wanted four more years of bush would love for our new President to have no security, but sorry, he gets the same thing you were more than happy to pay for bush to have.

and you'll be getting a bill.

If Obama were "serious" about changing Washington, DeLay said, "He would announce to the world: 'We are in crisis, we are at war, people are losing jobs; we are not going to have this party. Instead, I'm going to get sworn in at the White House. I'm going to have a nice little chicken dinner, and we'll save the $125 million.'"

What's the significance of the chicken yurt?

You just never stop do you? Racist.

Ok, we checked into our hotel on Saturday, for a three night stay (that was the minimum, and everyone wanted to get back to work today, except for me, I would have stayed last night). The whole city was just packed with happy friendly people. We went out to dinner, and then to poets and busboys which was one big party. Sunday was the concert on the mall. Sunday wasn't really that cold, so it was just perfect. The whole concert was incredible. Strangers were dancing with each other the whole time, and hugging each other, and people were crying. It was incredible. I don't think we'll ever see that number of people come together with that much joy again, in our lifetimes.

I'm sure it was awesome. I would have gone if I had the cash. It being all historical and stuff.

what the moron neocons are trying hard to ignore is that those 2,000,000 attendees are going to continue the grass roots progressive agenda.
It would only take 3 too stomp thier idiot Parrot Palin.

The hotel rooms were outrageous. I always stay at the Rouge when I am down there, but I couldn't get in there, and couldn't have afforded the prices even if they had rooms, I'm sure.

We paid 500 a night, for a average place, not as nice as the Rouge. I was really debating whether to go, but my bf was excited about it. He was the one who talked me into it. And then it ended up, as he made me admit, he was right and I'm glad I said yes.

Actually, this is an excellent point, and it's exactly what I think you are going to see happen.

I'm sure it was worth it. I hope you got some souvenirs, you'll want to tell the story to your young relatives.

Excellent. Someday one of your relatives will inherit cheap plastic stuff you bought, and it will be worth a ton of cash because people will want a tiny piece of that history.

I missed it last night, travelling, but did you see the Obamas dancing last night to "at last"? I saw it online today.

It's not important or relevant to how they do their jobs, but, it's kind of sweet to have a President and First Lady who are actually head over heels. Not, love, like, married forever and would be sad if they died. But, head over heels, in love. No one who has ever been in love could mistake the two. And we have not seen that in the White House that I can recall.

My kids were upset that they didn't get the day off school. My wife told them that when I am Inaugurated, they too will get the day off like the Obama's children did...

:D

Sounds awesome. Was there a lot of drinking and parting going on? Arrests?
