Inauguration

I don't really like to be hugged by people I don't know, truthfully... but it seemed like a once in a lifetime occassion, and it felt ok. :)

Oh Lord, I wasn't even talking about hugging me! I meant all the people standing there hugging complete strangers because they were seeing the return of the messiah. They all look like star struck robots who are convinced that they have seen heaven opened wide and the king on his throne. I have to give it to them though. Even when I was happy that Bush had beaten Gore, I never considered bowing down and kissing Bush's arse just to say I have touched the king.

Immie

PS: Sorry, but that is just the way so many of them appear.

or New York

I've lived in 5 states & visited many others. New York rocks; aside from the great natural beauty upstate & the greatest city ever downstate, the schools here are great, as are job opportunities, services, public transit, culture & other elements of what some would categorize as "quality of life."

I wish it was warmer sometimes, but aside from that...

Ok, so basically niether your or Chap have any info that can show us what "California has a lot of dependents" means.

I just don't know what that means, and you haven't cleared it up for me. Does it mean "Oh no the Mexicans" by any chance?

In English how about California relies highly on taxes paid by the rich and when those revenues drop the state finds itself in large financial problems? A more positive spin if you would prefer.

I like visiting NYC... but would never dream of living there. Bad weather, way way way too congested, proximity to New Jersey, poverty levels and of course..... the Yankees.

LOL NJ is like one of best states if not top state in the country for education, medical care, and income. Im not knocking CO. i think its a beautiful state.

I do agree with you on the Yankees tho. Try being in there division.

i'm speaking as a biased outsider and while I know there are several nice areas in New Jersey, NJ is truly America's armpit. The moment you hear someone is from Jersey you are forced to cringe. The day America decides to downsize and drop Jersey will be our finest day in this countrys history.

Who cares if they have quality of education, medical care and income... it is still a crappy place to live. "The Shore" and AC are about the only somewhat redeeming qualities that trash dump of a state has.... and AC sucks compared to Vegas.

NJ has such a bad rep. The area close to the city isn't great, but western part of the state is beautiful, and some of the beaches are among the best on the east coast (imo)...

you are right that once a place gets a 'rap' it can be hard to get rid of. 100% purley antedotal story here. Sunday I was in Manhattan Beach at a bar watching the football games. A table next to us were your proverbial loud obnoxious idiots who were annoying as hell throughout the game. You hear them talking and sure enough they are from Jersey. My first thought again was 'f*ckin Jersey'. Now intellectually I know these people don't represent the whole state but in my mind they epitimized how I view the state.

you have a misconception of the state. like all they have bad areas especially near AC and NYC but the country side is great. Its like comparing NYC to upstate NY.
