Following the US military's aggression against two Iranian oil tankers off the coast of Jask, the Iranian Foreign Ministry notes the dangerous consequences of the UN's indifference and leniency toward the outlawry and lawlessness of the governing body of the United States.
We strongly condemn the aggressive act by the piratical US military against vessels belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the aerial attacks carried out against our people, which took place in the late hours of Thursday night, 7 May, and the early hours of Friday morning, 8 May.
These cowardly sneak attacks were met with a powerful response from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the murderous aggressors failed to achieve their hateful objectives.
It further must be said that these aggressive and provocative actions represent a gross breach of Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and constitute an act of aggression as defined by the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Definition of Aggression (Resolution 3314).
The continuation of aggressive actions, coupled with contradictory behavior, bellicose rhetoric, and disgraceful blame-shifting by Donald Trump, indicates the confusion and incompetence of the US administration, and his profound inability to extricate himself from the quagmire of his own making.
The US military presence is itself the cause of insecurity with far-reaching global consequences far beyond the Persian Gulf region.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, while emphasizing its commitment to the policy of good neighborliness and respect for the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all regional countries, once again invites the governments of the region to demand the withdrawal of the imperialists and work toward establishing a mutual security mechanism grounded in collective trust, free from the coercive interference of extra-regional actors.
