Iraq now longer than ww2

I don't think so. Not yet.

Victory over japan took three years, eight months.

Bush's war, is I think, three years five months.

This also discounts the amouont of time that others were fighting the Axis without the help of the US.

IMO, the only war that can fairly be compared to Bush's war in Iraq, was the insugency we fought in the phillipines, which lasted something like 15 years.

And the circumstances were very analagous. We otherthrew the hated spanish overlords, and gave the filipinos the impression that once they were liberated we would leave in short order, and turn their country back over to them. Which of course didn't happen.

Naturally, what followed was pretty much the same as the iraqi insurgency.

The war in Iraq was pretty short actually. The building of a stable free country is the thing taking so long.

How long did it take for the wall to come down in Germany? And don't we still have troops there? But really, not the same thing as Iraq and no need to compare the two.

it's devolving into a civil war that was, to most middle eastern watchers, totally predictable. The fact that this administration did not predict it and plan for it is one of the reasons why we need to take the keys away from the republicans. They have totally fucked up our foreign policy in less than six years!

Maine, what is it that makes you think that the administration did'nt take into consideration that eventually a civil war could happen? I would guess that even someone with minimal knowledge of the coutry would know the possibility existed.

BTW When Gernamy started invading it's neighbors it was not a world war now was it ? when would it have become a world war ?

Civil War or not the goal was achieved, Saddam was removed from power and Iraq is not a threat anymore.

The "war" against the Republican Guard forces of Saddam Hussein, was over in a matter of a few weeks. We have been in the process of rebuilding the country, much as we did in Germany and Japan after WWII. If we are to make a credible analysis of comparison here, we need to understand the major difference between fighting a war and rebuilding after a war, as they are two completely different things. In that context, we still have a way to go, to beat the time spent rebuilding Germany and Japan, and if we are going by 'when the troops leave' as the criteria, we still have troops stationed in Germany and Japan, so Bush has a little time before we can start making comparisons to WWII.

Just put your bush blinders back on dixie and listen some more to Rush. It will be ok.

Evil, perhaps this was just the excuse/foot in the door for a presence in the oil rich ME. With the planners (not Bush) knowing we would not be able to cleanly withdraw from Iraq, and Iran and such would escalate the situation requiring an even greater presence.....Control of oil by the USA or forses freiendly to the USA?

The OIL excuse is just stupid, they will sell the oil no matter what, not need for a war. WE can buy it on the open market. So get over that lame excuse it doesn't work.
