IRS Data Shows: "The Rich" Pay Higher Rates

I guess some of these people cited here must actually still be earning their income. Too bad for them. But once they get to the level of Dick Cheney and others of his ilk and all their earnings begin coming from investments they will be paying about $1.5 million in taxes on $11 million in income! And that surely doesn't seem like nearly 30% percent to me. And who knows what Romney's actual rate or those of his super-rich friends were either, he lied so much anyone who believed a word that he said was brain dead, but he only paid about 13% too, so most of the real money power in America is still sliding! Even if these poor working stiffs are paying slightly more than their middle class compatriots who have little to show for their hard labor while the millionaires have plenty to show for an expertise that is mostly composed of connections.

First of all, its 'capital gains'....not income......taxed at 20%....which in most grade schools figures to be .....2.2 million in taxes....

I see you only name Republicans in rant against the rich....

isn't Nancy Pelosi rich?, Obama?, John Kerry?, Harry Reid? John Edwards?, Barbara Boxer?, Robert Reich?
Teresa Heinz Kerry? James Carville ? Dianne Feinstein?
and I could name another 1000 I wanted to.

Are you and desh having a stupid contest ?

Interesting question, coming from the sector that would categorize a cop/nurse married couple making $250K a year as "the rich", lumping them into the same category as those with assets of $1 billion or more.

If you truly wanted to tax the wealthy, you'd tax wealth, wouldn't you?

You do realize that people can be worth billions of dollars in accumulated assets and have virtually no reportable income, right?

Yet in the mind of the liberal, the cop/nurse married couple could be Ross Perot as far as they're concerned.

I actually agree with you here. Then you middle managements types would stop feeling like you're on the same side as the actually wealthy, and stop carrying their water.

And as far as you're concerned, we *ARE* on the same side as them. It's your failure, not ours.

Meanwhile, how do you square this perspective of yours with the 14th Amendment? You know, the one liberals interpret to mean it is unconstitutional for voting majorities to gang up on voting minorities and pass laws that unequally impact the minority?

How do you square that with the progressive income tax?

You are brainwashed by them. I would love it if we had tax brackets and income traceablity sufficient to separate them from you. And i don't vote dem. I don't vote. It's an exercise in futility.

And incidentally Dante....EVERYONE pays the same CG's rate....rich and poor alike.....

Once again, your trolley runs off the tracks when you're talking about wealth and income interchangably.

I knew you would seize upon that small inconsequential detail to drive a wedge between us. You really think you're on their side and that they give a shit about you. Like I said, you're brainwashed.

It is not an "inconsequential detail." It's the crux of the matter. It's the difference between taxing income and taxing wealth.

Liberals always gripe about the country's wealth disparity. So what do they do? Go after more income taxes.

Income taxes don't affect the super wealthy. It only keeps others from getting wealth.

You're the one who is brainwashed into thinking those who make $250K a year are "the wealthy." Not me.

I don't care about them either, except to the extent that like them my income is decimated by taxes.

If you want to tax fortunes over $5 million or so.... go ahead. Have a great time.

And when the super wealthy have to all start selling off assets and holdings to pay the wealth tax... and prices drop and markets crash...

You can feel very noble about yourself.

And finally, what is this apparent need you have for others to "care" about you?

I don't need anybody to care about me. I'd prefer just being left alone.

I said i agree with you on this point. We need all new tax brackets for the uber wealthy, and the ability to trace real income AND WEALTH. I know you middlers are not the real problem of the country. Are you actually for creating the ability to differentiate, or is just a rhetorical device.
