We let our kids watch whatever the hell they wanted growing up.
From little beyond toddler age, they had their own TVs in their rooms, with full cable access and no parental controls activated.
I don't have a fucking clue what they watched. Except for the Red Sox and Patriots which we tended to watch together.

I do know that we didn't send naïve, unsophisticated kids into a brutal world, prepared to be nothing but victims.
Then again, they were genetically capable kids, intelligence-wise..

I was absolutely there. There for little league games. There for dance recitals. There for PTA meetings.
There whenever I was either needed or wanted....and so was the gestapo to be completely fair.

But we were parents, not helicopters.

My kids seem to have turned out quite well.

One doesn't need prissy parents to turn out well.
 
Children need on duty parents, not absentee parents, to increase the likelihood of a positive outcome.

The odds are not good for parents who allow their children to police themselves.

ensuring that they do not watch harmful content on television is not being a helicopter parent. whoever told you that it was did you a huge disservice. It's equivalent to not caring what violent video games they may have played, then later they shoot up a school......you weren't there.

Our kids were not genetic idiots who conflate reality with television fiction and video games.
Perhaps our family operated at a level that you just can't understand. Perhaps you don't understand intelligent people. Not your fault.
 
The private school that my children attended monitored them while under their care and we monitored them while under our care.

Naive and unsophisticated children will not have good outcomes no matter the supervision.

America is full of children who were allowed to raise themselves...hence the crime and violence.

Some of the worst parents on earth have good outcomes with their children but they are in the minority.

Allowing the media to raise children has brought America to the precipice that we see every day.
