Is China seeking to colonize Africa?

Read Confessions of an Economic Hitman is you want to see how pernicious and self-serving we have been. https://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/0452287081 Our policy has been taking over economies and looting countries out of their resources. China is not taking them and changing their leadership. That is the American method we have used for generations.

Thanks, great book, although I have not read it, I have heard & seen interviews etc on it....

You point is of course valid, but that does not make the ccp deals acts of benevolence either...

Many of the projects they are giving loans on were rejected by the world bank & various other western institutions.

Various reasons from the environment to the countries ability to pay the money back, & the feasibility of the projects etc.

What do you think the ccp's motives are w/ the BRI???

China wants to be the world economic power. They are going about it the right way. We did it the wrong way and we have to carry that baggage around when we talk deals. China has opened up markets around the globe. I cannot speak to their long term motives. They actually have them, unlike us. We live in short term profits now system. We have quarterly metrics. We are never dismissing short term profits for a long term relationship.

All very good points, & true..

One of the long term goals of the ccp through trade deals & the silk road aka Belt & road Initiative is to curry favor, be everyone's go to guy, #1 trading partner w/ the power & leverage that goes w/ that....

Those can come in handy in many situations....... The USA nor Britain had such a grand plan..

I don't see modern expansion as military. They want more markets and better relations. We have wasted trillions of dollars in the last hundred years taking over governments. China is not looking for wars, they want business deals. They are more enlightened by watching our exploitations.

Yep...... Exactly... They wanna be everyone's go to guy, everyone's #1 trading partner & the power & leverage that goes w/ it.. The Silk road aka the Belt & road imitative is actualizing that desire..

I think Xi's new slogan sums it right up COMMON DESTINY-'Community of Common Destiny' Xi Jinping

Excellent point....

The Chinese are calling it globalizing, not colonizing but in case after case it seems many "leaders" are setting their country up for a rude debt wake-up call one day when they can't make their payments...

These leader are often cutting unwise deals(I wonder who they are listening to for advice & other bids) & the Chinese negotiators are taking advantage of their lack of options..

When the deals these questionable leaders make go bad, China steps in & takes assets, land leases etc Which is kinda reminiscent of US negotiations done by Native American chiefs & the various US treaty reps.......

It isn't just the countries of Africa but SEAsia, Central Asia & Europe that are getting these hard bargain/win win deals....

Maybe win win is the name of one of the negotiators & having a different meaning than in English??? :dunno: :whome:

The Left seem extremely reticent about China's policies in Africa. If it were the UK doing it they'd be instantly labelled as imperialists and racists, seems to me to be little different to the way Cecil Rhodes operated back in the days of the British Empire.

Spot on. ;)

China is committing acts of business in many countries that they hope will ensure their economic success in the future. They are being smart. America has interfered in the governments of many countries and overthrew their leaders to ensure access. We are still paying for what we did in Iran in the 1950s. We did it in Cuba too. We established our grasping of resources and markets using our army. China is opening markets with money, not guns.

^^America hating moron cheering for Marxist Communists. Yes, leftists really can be this stupid and pathetic.

^^Marxist China is enlightened according to this goon.

Yes, but the difference is we did those evil things for good, china is doing them for bad. See the difference??

Thanks for you opinion/insight.......View attachment 11616

I don't believe that "everything" China is doing is benevolent..

It seems that the more I learn about these deals, the less benevolence seems to be a factor...

The premise is mutual benefit but they often drive a hard bargain & the citizens have no say up front & some projects have been put on hold or squashed when they have. (Unfortunately they are often left still holding the bag, for costs=payments due etc)......

That is often a huge burden on a poor country, & as seen in Sri Lanka ( How China Got Sri Lanka to Cough Up a Port) can lead to loss of property through lease or setting aside land disputes w/ china as payment..........

More & more ppl are starting to believe it->China’s Debt-Trap Diplomacy

Business is not benevolent. It is about money and money =power. America has been on top because of money. You can feel it slipping away because Trump is an isolationist.

Not to defend trump, but it started before he was elected.. But I agree he isn't helping a lot......

A smart leader would have taken on the Chinese Communist Party w/ the world @ his back, instead he turned his back on the world & thought he was a tough guy going it alone, making up his own rules, never really knowing or understanding the rules or how the game is played.....
