lol @ the "traditional" definition of liberal. Did that traditional definition describe the people who were demonstrating in the streets for women's suffrage? How about union protests? How about civil rights marches?

and AGAIN.... you want to look back on the last decade and claim victory for conservatism, but did you actually turn back ANY of the gains liberals had made? Did you privatize social security? did you do away with the department of education? did you institute a flat tax? did you amend the constitution to deify straight marriage, or to overturn Roe v. Wade? Nope. Conservatives keep from losing MORE of their shirts for a decade and they claim a huge victory. Liberals, on the other hand, look at the arch of their success in terms of centuries. Things that were uber-liberal a half a century ago are now right in the middle of the main stream. That's a fact.

Sign at a tea bagger rally: "Keep your socialist hands off my Medicare"

you can't make that shit up! Pure comedy gold!

They lose so many battles. As I was pointing out in the other thread, creationism has lost every battle it has fought since 1859. Every FUCKING one. And evidence keeps piling up against the conservatives in laboratories and in field research every day.

Republicans have been trying to repeal social security since 1936...and they have failed every fucking time.

They have been trying to repeal medicade and medicare since the mid 1960s. Again, they have failed every fucking time.

And while they have successfully fought some legislation aimed at carbon reduction, they have lost the scientific debate on global warming. Badly. Regardless of what people say here, look at the number of excellent peer reviewed papers and reach projects. Once again, conservatives lose badly.

They have made some restrictions of abortion rights, but have alienated an assload of female voters.

Republicans have failed to keep pace with the economic growth we have seen under democratic presidents, and at the same time, republicans have been orders of magnitude more financially irresponsible. Look at the huge deficits we ran under Reagan for example.

And yes, truth deflector is correct about the number of republican governors. But look at the number of them that are pure idiots like Paul Lapage in Maine for example. Or look at how badly Walker has hurt education in Wisconsin. Republicans have a high percentage of non performing governors and state legislatures.

they slow down their own ass whipping for an election cycle, and all of a sudden, they think they've won the war. classic.

women's suffrage
union rights to organize
child labor laws
40 hour work week
minimum wage
social security
medicare
medicaid
civil rights
environmental protection
gay rights

ALL opposed by American conservatives.
ALL supported by American liberals.

LePage is a total embarrassment to Maine... he will be a one termer, imo.

Conservative political leaders were in some ways useful pre Reagan. Any more, they hold no real purpose to our society.

If Secretary Clinton is behind the timing of these allegations against Gov. Christie, (and I don't doubt that she is) what would be her goal? I suspect it would be to wound Gov. Christie's political career, not ruin it. Make the Republican nomination process more bloody than it would be, but hope that a battered and bruised Christie emerges the victor.

Its much easier to win in 16' if you draw first blood in 14'.

She is nothing if not highly intelligent and a grand tactician. Also, she eats controversy and scandal for breakfast.....

Everybody in Maine loved Oly. I never voted for her, of course, but I was rarely really unhappy with her performance as a Senator. Her tap dancing on the health care bill was a bit of a disappointment, but what can you expect from a republican, even one as good as Oly.

True, she is underestimated at ones peril. That's how I knew there were no real scandals in Pres. Obama's closet during the primaries of '08.
