Nothing wrong with that. We all need a change!

I agree, they held his position for a long time, but he never went back.
Did he really? Why? Burn out? I know most profs I have met at OSU all seem to grumble and be disgruntled that they could earn far, far more income for the hours they work in the private sector than they can as a college Prof.Interestingly enough my old man earned tenure as a Professor then quit.
Im going home, have a great weekend!
Oh Come one Wacko. You have to admit with your family background that a lot of your conservative views are based on rebelling from the liberal views of your parents and gandparents. So if an urban kid like you from a very liberal background can have his paradigm changed to a more conservative view....why not the other way around?
My old man went straight into private practice from Grad School. To this day he views academics as second rate talent. He Graduated grad school loathing academia. My father was a professor of architecture, fully tenured, then decided he wanted to practice architecture.
Honestly, we never talked politics at home. I do know my parents both went from liberal to Republican to both being independents today. Within our family today I am the only registered Republican along with my (gay) Aunt's partner which is pretty funny.

Didn't your grandparents teach at Ohio State?
It is pretty funny....I have several Gay republican friends, if you can imagine that....
Well I'd say ironic. My lesbian sister that's also a member of the UAW is also a registered Republican. Hell I was a registered Republican till 2004....though I admit I was a Rino from 2000 onward. I was a registered with the GOP from 1979 to 2004.Honestly, we never talked politics at home. I do know my parents both went from liberal to Republican to both being independents today. We talked politics a lot at my home but it wasn't like Dad preached his beliefs and we all said "Amen!". Our family dinners often included conversations on current events and politics and they were often very contentious. My father is an economic moderate and a social barbarian. My mother is left of center liberal. My brother was gay and a flaming far left liberal. I have always been center right on economics and liberal on social issues. My sister the lesbian is center right on economics and pretty far right on social issues. My youngest sister is not into intellecutual persuits and always hated (and still does) those kinds of discussions.
Anyways....you would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at our home at dinner time. We had some of the damnedest conversations. LOL
In Columbus, Ohio? That's not hard to imagine at all if you've ever lived in Columbus and since Wacko has.......It is pretty funny....I have several Gay republican friends, if you can imagine that....
I'll give a lot of credit there to my father. He encouraged us all to read a lot about current events and politics and he would challange to think about our positions by taking the opposite extremes just to piss you off and was very good at cutting holes in your position and asking hard questions that made you think (and often pissed you off.).Wow, I can only imagine!

Well...I dunno....things could go too far from time to time but hey...that's family.I give your old man props for that, it's a great way to learn. That's pretty cool.
