Unless there's something I'm seriously missing here, it's simple math that if the unemployment rate went down it means that more people got jobs this month than lost them? This is a serious question, am I missing something?

The math isn't that simple, and a lot of people also dropped off the rolls. It's just a tenth of a point, so statistically, it's insignificant.

What is significant is that it didn't grow substantially, and job losses came in about 100,000 less than what they projected. That was a nice surprise, and - coupled with news on other indicators over the past month - has created much more optimism for a near-term recovery.

Which meme is unhappy about.
 
I agree that the rate going down is great news, but I claimed multiple times that the rate going down meant that more jobs were gained than lost and I was obviously wrong.
