Israel has dismissed a Middle East peace plan put forward by Spain, France and Italy.

The plan calls for a ceasefire and increased international intervention in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

An Israeli official said parts of the plan were being discussed, but it was not being taken seriously as it was not co-ordinated with the EU or Israel.

The Spanish prime minister proposed the plan, saying the situation required urgent action by the outside world.

"We cannot remain impassive in the face of the horror that continues to unfold before our eyes," Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said.

Israel does not want peace.

If peace is achieved, much of the US financing of Israel will evaporate, the Israeli economy will suffer and the Israeli standard of living will drop....

An Israeli-Palestinian peace process requires american leadership. That's just a fact. It doesn't matter what Spain does.

Bush prefers to remain disengaged.

I don't necessarily think that is true. Peace with the Palis wouldn't free them from danger entirely. Until it all filters through the entire Muslim world they would still be in danger from other areas. I think they'd have the benefit of a boost to the economy from a drop in terrorism and still get support from the US.

I think Bush has his hands full keeping them from bombing the crap out of infrastructure in Iran.

Well, I personally prefer Bush being disengaged in international relations.

Yep, simply because the US holds the purse strings for the Israelis.

The way the US will force the Israelis to the table is via economic coercion....

The problem with cease fires and agreements, is only the Israelis are held to them. So sure they won't agree to another surrender.

Yeah, like continuing to expand settlements during ceasefires, or using all that shiney military equipment that the US sells it during ceasefires etc etc.

The Israelis aren't held to anything, because it has much of the US in its palm...

And they don't Any, who violates the cease fire first? Always the Palis. Israel has a right to respond. The Palis never pass up a chance to make the wrong decisions.

Blah, Blah, Blah.

Yeah, the Israelis are so sweet, they never target civilians for political ends (terrorism), continue to expand settlements during ceasefires or bulldoze villages.

Its all the fault of the Palestinians. It's not as if they were displaced from their homeland when Israelis terrorised there way to statehood.....

They could have had thier own state many times, but they would rather kill jews instead. They were not displaced except by thier own chosing.

Yeah the Israelites gave up their country and went to egypt for work, and then expected to come back and take the land back.
Of course like Bush God told them to do it....
