I've decided to become a Buddhist

It will take many years of practice just to calm you down enough to be able to fully understand meditation. At least this is my opinion based on your activity on the board...

:D

LOL

I've tried to meditate before, actually. Not very successful, my mind started wandering after about 15 seconds. Then it was back to regular ole daydreamin.

Label it "thought" let it dissipate. Meditation is letting your mind free associate. Daydreaming is directing the thought.... It takes more than one time to learn the trick.

And remember, you are not your mind. Your mind is an istrument of your being, not the manifestation of it.

You are on your way then! You are focusing on your mind and that is good! You recognize it is there, and that is the first step. Seems kinda dumb to say that, but how often in your day to day experiences do you really think 'I just stopped focusing'. Try again, this time try to think as many different things as possible in three minutes and that includes 'I can't think of anything' to 'Damn I liked her boobs!'

Mind is an interference. Mind is everything one identifies with. Perceived responsibilities, problems, worries... Disidentification with "mind" is really where the understanding of reality is. Descartes said " I think therefore I am". But he didn't undertand that one needs not to "think" to be, to exist.

Existence is pure, it does not require mind or thought. Reality comes from a far more substantial place than either.

Fuck you.

Beats me...............!

"Kumbaya, my lord, Kumbaya"?

Wouldn't that be a bit innapropriate for a Bhuddist to sing?

Don't the Hippies and Buddah meditate alot?...Don't they both adhere to a Higher Plain?...Never mind what the hell do I know anyhoo...I am just a fun loving war hawk!:D

Buddhism (well, the flavours I've read about) and Islam seem to be similar to me, they're both very fatalistic.

I could never be a Buddhist - or at least meditate as per Beefy's instructions, because I AM my mind, and that is all there is too it. I'm on board with Decartes on this one...

That's cool and fine. But there is a diffeent way.

There's only one thing in life, only one thing you'll ever have, or have ever had, and that's the present. Everything happens in the present. Where your mind is is where it is. Discard thought from time to time. Thought tends to operate in the past (illusory) and the future (illusory). This is your mind creating realities that exist outside the only true reality.
