Jim Carrey... jealous much?

So basically you want to limit the free speech of artists, declare corporations people, and their money free speech?

Okay.

ONLY artists espousing the Liberal/Democrat viewpoint.

Note how not a single person has mentioned Ted Nugent and his incessant need to spout his political views, which conservatives lap up like manna from heaven despite him being nothing more than a "wandering minstrel", to borrow Dixie's analogy.

Personally, I love having the Nuge out there as a spokesman for the right. Give him more airtime, I say.

I said you were suggesting a limit - not mandating a law. And you were.

As for Ingraham, again - what makes her more qualified to render an opinion? At what level of fame should someone keep their opinions to themselves? Do we only want politicians & the punditry to speak their opinions...because they're somehow more qualified to have them?

What makes her more qualified? You mean, besides having interned for Justice Thomas and Scalia, working on numerous political campaigns, and having a nationally syndicated talk show, where her job is to give political analysis and opinion?

I did not suggest a limit. That is not found in the text I wrote, idiot. I gave a fucking opinion, and I'll keep it, thank you very much.

Now go fuck yourself.

Dixie: Post #72 above: Now this goes on with both sides, but again, by their very nature, most creative artists are liberal.

Yeah, I just accused liberals when I said this. That's right, moron.

So, please clarify for me, would Libertarians do away with all laws?

Their philosophy is live and let live, so which laws would Libertarians enforce?

I have never quite understood their platform.

Thanks

OMG I can't believe there's someone besides me who doesn't like Jerry Lewis. That's like being un-American.

As a person, I admire Jerry Lewis. What he did with MDA was worthy of anyone's respect. I even appreciate his contributions to comedy, and his stint with Dean Martin produced some of the best comedy of its time. I just don't favor his style of comedy, and I think Jim Carrey falls into somewhat the same category. Too exaggerated and silly for me, it's just not my preference.

So if a celebrity interned for Scalia, their opinion would be worth more?

Sorry - doesn't wash. Someone having a nationally syndicated show doesn't make their opinion any more valid than yours or mine or Alec Baldwin's or Ted Nugent's. We shouldn't be afraid of opinions; we should encourage them.

No one has said anything here about the "validity" of what people say, except you! What a fucking idiot!

This has absolutely nothing to do with the validity of opinion or free speech rights. If you want to twist it into that for the sake of railing on me, fine... let's just let everyone know that is what you are doing, intentionally distorting the conversation, so you can obsessively attack me.

Laura Ingraham is a nationally syndicated talk show host, she is paid by her employers to talk about politics. Alec Baldwin is not, he is paid to act in television programs. Ted Nugent is paid to make records and sing songs. All I've said is, I lose respect for people who use their fame and connection with the media, to interject their political opinions. It doesn't matter how "valid" their opinions might be, they are exploiting an advantage the rest of us don't have. The ONLY reason they have this advantage, is because they are artists, with the exception of people like Ingraham, who are paid to give their political opinions.

Jerry Lewis was more popular in France. That said, he was pretty funny. My introduction to him was a film called The Delicate Delinquent.

How am I attacking you?

You flat out said that Laura is "more qualified" to render an opinion, because of the internships she had & the fact that she has a nationally syndicated show.

I disagree w/ that premise. To me, a world where we elevate people like her or any of the punditry as "more qualified" when it comes to opinions is a kind of scary place, and not what the founders envisioned when they spoke of the "marketplace of ideas."

What are you afraid of, anyway? Is it so difficult to hear opinions that you don't agree with?

and our politicians are paid to run this country and they have shown themselves to be idiots. Many of the people paid to talk about politics are idiots... Rush, Hannity, Olberman, Colmes... all morons. Yet their stupidity runs rampant about the airwaves on a daily basis. Add their partisanship in to help polarize the masses... which is precisely what both parties want.

If he was looking for civilized dialogue on the issue, perhaps he shouldn't have started out by mocking a persons position that is no longer alive to defend them? Perhaps he shouldn't have sung:

"Cold Dead Hand' is abt u heartless motherf -- kers unwilling 2 bend 4 the safety of our kids. Sorry if you're offended by the word safety"

Given the above is complete bullshit... no one is against trying to protect the kids. But he pretends that is the case simply because others don't agree with his methods.
