Do you have the age breakdown of viewership, or are you just assuming? It's well known that Fox News has a lock on the older generations for cable news viewership. You don't think Gutfeld would be the same?

You’re not wrong that the networks made a choice to alienate a big portion of the country when late night shows went heavy on politics. But that’s only part of it. Younger people don’t watch network TV anymore. They stream or watch online. They might catch a Kimmel clip on social media, but they’re not tuning into the show itself. Late night comedy audiences have been shrinking for years.

In the 18-49 demographic (the coveted demo of this group) Gutfeld reaches 238,000, Kimmel 220,000, Colbert 219,000.
 
Also, only Gutfeld actually increased in viewership, the others have been on a downward trajectory. All of them. Only Gutfeld grew viewership.

This is why I think Fox dominates the ratings. Liberal stuff is more spread out, and there are more outlets for that POV.

Which in itself is kind of a reflection of where we're at. I don't think people would have understood it 30-40 years ago if we talked about late night TV or networks in terms of party affiliation.

I still say "dominates" is a bit exaggerated. He beats them, yes. But "dominates".. Not yet. Though his trajectory is up, so maybe.

Carson made Late Night good, any others are a poor substitution.
The next runner-up would be Joan Rivers, but the Obamas killed her.
