SDI was totally unworkable with technology available in the '80s, it was essentially a bottomless money pit. The only real good from it was that it scared to shit out of the Russians and forced them to realise that they could never compete with the West and at the same time give their citizens a decent standard of living.

The missile defence systems of today have nothing to do with SDI, they use technology that has been around for many years. If you can point me to one space based laser system that is currently operational and targeting North Korea then I will concede your point. The military had some strange shit going on in the past, they even wanted to explode an atomic warhead on the Moon and base nuclear missiles there.

What methods that were finally adapted after the last 30 years of research is irrelevant....

The ridicule of phases like 'star wars' and 'lasers' and 'ray guns' is the creation of imbecile left wingers...Democrats like Kerry....yet I would bet

that research in those areas is still going on.....the US Navy is ready to deploy as laser weapon to be used against drones and such.

We have no idea what research, that might have started as 'missile defense' ... came up with other devices to solve other problems.....

In fact, the only reason we're not off of oil already has to do with the vast amount that big oil spends to keep alternative options from advancing as fast as they could.

2030 is a conservative estimate if we really set our minds to it. We did, after all, get people to the moon in a few short years after making it a priority.
