A federal judge has declared a mistrial in the high‑profile case accusing nine North Texans of attacking the Prairieland ICE Detention Center on the Fourth of July, after determining that a defense attorney’s shirt could improperly influence potential jurors.

The mistrial was issued Tuesday during jury selection, after Judge Mark Pittman noticed that defendant Maricela Rueda's defense attorney, MarQuetta Clayton, was wearing a T‑shirt under her jacket with images tied to the civil rights era beneath her jacket.

Clayton later exited the courthouse with the shirt turned inside out, which had depicted images of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Shirley Chisholm, and other civil rights leaders. It appeared the attorney was wearing it in honor of civil rights leader, Rev. Jesse Jackson, who died on Tuesday, as well as Black History Month in February. Clayton did not confirm the reason for the shirt verbally to reporters.

But in court, the judge said the graphics could be interpreted as political messaging and risked biasing the jury.

Disbar the bitch for the blatantly unethical stunt.

If the shirt honored black civil rights leaders who demanded non violence, as seems to be the case, it would seem to be condemning the acts of the client.

What kind of moron attorney would wear a shirt like that in court?

They had not picked a jury yet so at best it will delay ift two or three days, Two of the defendants are trannies.
I dont know that......getting a new court date often takes many months, as the courts are massively over crowded in spite of over 90% of the cases being concluded in plea deals.

This case seems to be moving right along. I was surprised it was already to the point of picking a trial. I doubt the judge will be in the mood to delay the trial .

This case is over via mistrial. Prosecutors are free to retry the defendants, but it would be a new case.....I doubt very much that it can jump into the timeslot of a different case.

What kind of moron doctor would post things like that on JPP?
What kind of moron would defend what she did in court. This is a FEDERAL court. Not a clown show a state court. This judge is not messing around. A FEDERAL bourt in conservative Texas with a judge appointed by Trump is going to go by the book. This kind of BS will get delt with fast.
