MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN
Saw a good video and just wanted what some of you think.

Which is better:

1 - Equal opportunity

or

2 - Equal outcome

Please give examples of the choice you make.

Equal opportunity, because I'm willing to work smarter and longer than the plebes...

But does that mean that someone wanting to go to College should be allowed the opportunity over someone that scores better; because what about that person's "opportunity"??

<
Yes, I intend to play the "Devil's Advocate" for both sides of this. :D

That person had the opportunity to take the test. He failed the test.

But that's where I see the negative side of "equal opportunity" because maybe he didn't fail the test and the College just wanted to GIVE the other person the opportunity.

Equal Outcome would stand on the testing ability of each individual and not the opportunity.

If he didn't fail the test then he can get into a competing college. Isn't capitalism great?

Allowing everyone access to the same opportunities is key to an equitable and just society because everyone deserves the chance to try to reach their goals.

Pretending that everyone deserves the same result in life is illogical since people are individuals who each have differing talents and interests. Success cannot be guaranteed by society.

Not if the Colleges have decided to go with "Equal Opportunity" to mean that they have to let the less qualified to have the "OPPORTUNITY" and take a spot of someone more qualified.

But who gets to decide who should have that same opportunity, especially when it denies someone who is more qualified.

Opportunity isn't a zero-sum game. For equal opportunity to exist, all society has to do is refuse to put roadblocks in people's way, and refrain from using governmental power to give any "class" an advantage. Natural selection and random chance will do the rest, and provide the outcome - which will be equitable, not equal.

On this I agree;; but shouldn't it also boil down to organizations to also stop giving advantages to someone less qualified?

Private organizations are free to do as they like within the law. Consumers/investors are free to look elsewhere.
