Justice Department NOW Targeting 3 Fox Reporters

explain why it is you think Fox isn't a 'legitimate' news source while the others are. What is your rationale for that?

To make it easier on you... compare Fox to MSNBC if you would.
just my opinion having watched both of them... Faux news is negative Obama even on their straight news shows... Whereas MSNBC seems not to be so partisan in their delivery of news....again... just my opinion.

I don't believe for one minute that Obama's above the law but I do want to see all the evidence before making a decision. Or maybe I'm just really cynical about repub investigations since the Ken Starr debacle.

With much respect good sister .. it isn't about republicans .. not about Ken Starr. The news about this isn't coming from either one.

It's about principle. Attacking what's left of the press is wrong regardless of who is behind it. That doesn't change with the letter behind the name .. nor does any attack on American civil liberties. Democrats have been silent on those attacks since the day Obama walked into the White House.

Not speaking of you personally, but that is incredible hypocrisy.

Without question, democrats believe that Obama should be able to get away with whatever he wants without serious critique. Undeniable.

What if George W. Bush had done that?
excerpt

“Virtually all the Democrats who were apoplectic about Bush and were constantly complaining about him ‘trampling on our values’ over eavesdropping and detention have been silent about assassination, even though it’s so much more severe,” Greenwald said. “It isn’t that Obama is necessarily any worse on civil liberties than Bush. The point is he’s able to get away with so much more.”

A leak crackdown that could send reporters to jail

The Obama administration has launched an unprecedented drive to put alleged leakers of government secrets behind bars — a campaign that could end up putting reporters in the same place.

Since Obama took office, prosecutors have filed six criminal, Espionage Act cases over leaks — more prosecutions than under all prior presidents combined. In one, the Justice Department is trying to force New York Times reporter James Risen to identify his confidential sources and has argued to a federal appeals court that journalists enjoy no privilege against being called as witnesses in a criminal case. If the government prevails, Risen is likely to end up in jail for contempt.

The anti-leak drive and the potential for journalists to be caught in the crossfire is an occasional subject of news stories and editorials, but Bush officials are convinced they could never have gotten away with what has happened under Obama.

“If we were doing what this administration has been doing to reporters, we would be characterized as Nixonian, flat-out. People would say, ‘They have an enemies list in the media and are taking it out on them. …’ We would have gotten crushed. It would have been editorial after editorial and 24/7 on cable news,” Corallo said.

“This is a huge chilling effect on national-security reporting,” Greenwald said. If it had occurred under Bush, “this would be a major, major scandal.”

.. and they act as if nobody can see the hypocrisy.

Frankly, I have no idea what democrats stand for anymore. It certainly isn't freedom of the press, for civil liberties, or against needless for-profit wars. They've allowed Obama to trash the democratic brand for all time.

The funny thing about the Corallo quote is this quote about the Gonzales DOJ subpoenaing records from the San Francisco Chronicle for the totally-more-important-than-burning-foreign-intelligence-assets investigation into steroids in baseball:

Mark Corallo criticized Ashcroft’s successor, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. “This is the most reckless abuse of power I have seen in years,” Corallo told the Times yesterday. “They really should be ashamed of themselves.”

The subpoenas were issued to the Chronicle as part of the government’s investigation into steroid use in baseball. “You just don’t ride roughshod over the rights of reporters to gather information from confidential sources,” Corallo said. Gonzales has defended his decision to issue the subpoenas.

Spare me the "if Bush . . ." bullshit.

just my opinion having watched both of them... Faux news is negative Obama even on their straight news shows... Whereas MSNBC seems not to be so partisan in their delivery of news....again... just my opinion.

Its a matter of perspective....on MSNBC, you hear what you want to hear....on FOX you hear what you need to hear, both sides....not so much my opinion as it is
an accurate view of reality.

Are Fox News reporters above the law or something?

Obviously they think they are...

explain why it is you think Fox isn't a 'legitimate' news source while the others are. What is your rationale for that?

To make it easier on you... compare Fox to MSNBC if you would.

Let's not compare apples to oranges. Let's compare all the shows on FOX daily (except for the Fox Report with Shepard Smith) with all the shows on MSNBC.

All are pundits with shows that discuss the news with opinion as well as report it. I'm not going to count all of them, but it appears to be obvious the Fox shows have a tendency to lie and misrepresent the news, as evidenced by Politifact's review, on a larger scale than the pundits at MSNBC.

Now let's compare NBC Nightly News with the Fox Report with Shepard Smith. Brian Williams rarely gives his opinion, Smith often does. That's the difference between the two.

Funny thing is Fox viewers hate Smith because they claim he's a democrat!

Ill wait for a real news network to cover the story

You're gonna wait a long time to hear anything on the liberal far left networks.....they just refuse to cover this kind of news until it becomes impossible to avoid,
and even then it gets only a 10 seconds of coverage.....of well, your loss, not mine.

Why do you Republicans seem to believe that Fox News "Reporters" are above the law?

just my opinion having watched both of them... Faux news is negative Obama even on their straight news shows... Whereas MSNBC seems not to be so partisan in their delivery of news....again... just my opinion.

So because they disagree that makes them illegitimate? LMAO... does that mean NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC were all illegitimate when Bush was in office?

Do you think its against the law for reporters to talk to government officials ?

No, I think its against the law for reporters (or anybody) to offer benefits to government officials to attempt to encourage them to disclose top secret information.

Its a matter of perspective....on MSNBC, you hear what you want to hear....on FOX you hear what you need to hear, both sides....not so much my opinion as it is
an accurate view of reality.

Then it should be a simple matter for you to quantify your statement with some hard facts.

Prove it.
