justice stevens doesn't care about justice it seems

Somehow planning his retirement based on having his successor chosen by a like minded President equates to not caring about Justice?

I dont get the connection!

Your post provides no proof of your statement.

Can you not understand simple math? I provided the clearest proof of my thesis it is possible to provide.

I actually do not believe the senate has a return rate of 90%.

You get how many are thrown out or retired over 10 years in the house by taking 90% and raising it to a fifth - you get around 59%. Only 46% of house members currently go back to 2001.

Term limits would also have the perverse effect of greatly increasing the power of interest groups.

That's a false argument. The power structure in congress lies with political staffers who stay on as long as their boss. These aids and staffers are the ones making the call to lobby and special interest groups and currying favors. Lobbyers are constantly going through new staff and realigning themselves depending on the politics of the day...

By the time an incumbent reaches their 3rd term they have a 65% chance of keeping their seat if they run.

Post stats to back up your statements.

we have built in term limits. They are called elections. If you don't like your Senator or Representative, vote him or her out. The truth of the matter is that we all like OUR Senator and Rep, we just don't like other states Senators and Reps.

When salaries and retirements became so cushy the animal known now as the career politician was born. It never used to be so...times have changed and we need term limits. The truth is by the third term the incumbant can usually out spend any contenders to basically guarentee their reelection when combined with name recognition.
