Yes, it IS more winning. Canada ultimately doesn't have a leg to stand on.
I really DO love this tariff-related fear-mongering though, especially since it is something in which there is
very recent history to point to in order to debunk the popular lie about it "resulting in higher prices for US citizens".
1) IF one were to extend the media fear-mongering ("logic") of "tariffs resulting in higher prices for US citizens" to its logical conclusion, am I seriously supposed to believe that both Canada and Mexico simultaneously thought: "Hmmmmm, Trump is currently implementing tariffs against us as a way to harm his own citizens. We need to immediately "retaliate" by likewise implementing tariffs against him to harm OUR own citizens!!"??
In other words:
Why wouldn't they both simply "do nothing" as they, from a safe distance and with popcorn in hand, gleefully watch as Trump harms his own citizens?
2)
Very recent history has shown exactly what happens during such a "song and dance" of Trump implementing tariffs and some other country "retaliating" by implementing tariffs against the USA. The first thing to watch for is what happens to the valuation of the Mexican Peso and the Canadian Dollar against the US Dollar. If their currencies both "drop" and the US dollar "rises" (which is what happened last time), then Trump's tariffs will have minimal/no impact on US citizens because imports will be paid with "higher value" US dollars. Remember, THEY both
need access to OUR market (or their economies will tank), not the other way around, so they will devalue their currencies in order to retain access to our market. Their companies will also start doing business in the USA in order to avoid tariffs. That would mean more "tax revenue" for the USA and less "tax revenue" for Canada and Mexico. All in all, it will be painful for them, not for us.
The tariffs can all immediately end if they'd simply secure their borders and stop the free flow of illegals and fentanyl into our nation. We're finally doing it again on our side, and now it's time for them to do it on their side too. "We're all in this together", correct?
3) Canada is pretty much wholly dependent upon the USA with regard to their oil. They are dependent upon shipping their oil down to us so that we can refine it and then ship it back up to them. Canada is dependent upon the USA being willing to take their oil. Trump has all the leverage; Trudeau has NO leverage.
TLDR: US citizens will ultimately feel little/no pain. Canada and Mexico will both act tough for a while but then eventually back down and behave again after daddy Trump gives them both a few spankings.
P.S. -- I will tag
@Althea here since he/she needs to learn these lessons as well.
