Harris gets tough reviews over border on first foreign trip


Before Vice President Harris’s plane touched down at Joint Base Andrews after 1 a.m. on Wednesday, the narrative of her first foreign trip had already been cast.

Biden allies and even some people close to Harris said they viewed her trip to Guatemala and Mexico as a “disaster,” as one put it.

They said they were left wondering why she seemed so ill-prepared to handle basic questions like “Why you haven’t been to the border?” that have been telegraphed by Republicans and conservative media as well as more mainstream outlets given her focus on the Northern Triangle countries and immigration.

Harris’s comments about visiting the border during the trip left almost everyone shaking their heads inside and outside the White House.

“It wasn’t great,” said one longtime Biden ally. “A little cringeworthy too. I don’t know how they weren’t preparing for these questions.”

Another ally was blunt: “It was terrible. I don’t know how else to say it.”

Biden administration officials are “perplexed” by Vice President Kamala Harris’ handling of her embarrassing first international trip, according to a report from CNN.

Harris’ trip earlier this week to Central America and Mexico, coupled with her awkward interview Tuesday with NBC News anchor Lester Holt over her absence at the U.S. border with Mexico, reportedly has those close to her attempting to make sense of her bungled foreign visit.

“[Harris] endured a rocky first foreign trip since taking office, with sources telling CNN her two-day swing through Mexico and Guatemala left some administration officials quietly perplexed about what they perceive as her bumpy answers to questions about whether she will go to the US-Mexico border,” CNN noted Wednesday in a lengthy report after speaking to people inside the White House.

Kamala Harris’ trip borders on disaster


Vice President Kamala Harris made her first foreign trip last week, traveling south of the border to Guatemala and Mexico to address the huge surge of illegal migrants at our southern border. The trip did not get off to a good start.

The landing gear on Air Force Two didn’t properly retract forcing the vice president’s plane to return to Joint Base Andrews minutes after takeoff. “We all said a little prayer,” said the vice president as she boarded her backup plane.

And that was the highlight of her week.

The vice president met with the usual gaggle of government officials in Guatemala, including President Alejandro Giammattei. At a press event afterward, Harris had a strong message for potential border crossers.

“Do not come,” she said. Then, for good measure, she said it again. I’m pretty sure she wishes she had taken her own advice.

Both right and left jumped all over Harris for her remarkably incompetent mixed messaging and the disastrous mid-trip one-on-one interview she did with NBC Nightly News host, Lester Holt.

“The notion that the border is closed,” asked Holt, “Why should they believe you when they know people are getting in?”

To which the vice president had no answer, instead insisting she has been, “working on this issue for a very long time,” which is technically true, just from the wrong side. She has spent her entire public career making the problem worse.

~The Biden administration claims they are focused on the “root causes” of illegal immigration; the systemic poverty, violence and corruption in Central America that continues to send so many fleeing their homes hoping for a better life for themselves and their children. This is undoubtedly true.

As noble a goal as this might be, it offers little consolation to the folks who have a nightly caravan of cartel thugs taking advantage of the hemisphere’s most desperate people in their backyards. Trying to solve our border crisis by unraveling the domestic chaos of corrupt and poverty-stricken countries is as doomed to fail as the city of Los Angeles trying to build “affordable housing” as solution to our current homeless epidemic.

~Unless President Biden reverses course and — TRIGGER WARNING! acknowledges the Trump Administration policies were working — telling the hemisphere’s poor “Do not come” will fly no better than Vice President Harris’ plane.

Yet President Biden gave the stolen money back to the military: Trump’s border wall has been one of the most useless and expensive infrastructure projects in American history. But it succeeded beyond expectations as a symbol that unites and mobilizes Trump supporters — which is why he used it as a distraction and a showcase for defiance the day before the House impeached him for the second time.

Trump spent most of his speech touting the wall, his signature act in office. In a flurry of last-minute construction, the Department of Homeland Security announced the completion of 450 miles of the emblematic barrier. However, Customs and Border Protection reports that only 47 miles of that are new primary wall where no barrier had existed.
