Labor unions prevent nonunion power workers from helping in NJ.

USC probably cheated during that game too... don't worry though, USC will stay within 4 TDs of OR.

DEBUNKED!!!

Now Decatur Utility has come out and admitted that "at no time was the crew turned away by anyone in New Jersey"

http://www.northjersey.com/news/ber...in_NJ_to_help_restore_service_state_says.html

Apologies needed from:

Superfreak (self-evident after his enraged spazz attack and litany of false allegations)
TinFoil (who, after the claim that "unions" turned these guys away was debunked, kept insisting that "some union thug must have taken it upon themselves" - DEBUNKED)
Winterborn (who claimed that BFGRN's asking him for evidence was "mudslinging")

And I'm sure there were a couple of other idiots who chimed in on that thread, I have half if not more of the righties on IA, but I'm sure there were a few.

Simply denying the story doesn't make you right.

The other side

The general manager of Decatur Utilities, Ray Hardin told Fox Business they were presented documents from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers at a staging area in Virginia. The documents stated they had to affiliate with a union to work, which the crews could not agree to.
Hardin said the crews were not turned away but were made to believe that affiliating with the union was a requirement to work.
"It was and remains our understanding that agreeing to those requirements was a condition of being allowed to work in those areas," said Hardin.

The crew attempted to look for work in other areas but because a resolution could not be reached, they made the decision late Thursday night to return home.

Moore said they're frustrated being told "thanks, but no thanks."

Fox twists their facts to meet their agenda! When will you ever learn, grandpa cracker?

Who hires workers? the union or the company?

answer: the company

So if the company hires a lazy or unqualified person, the union can only protect his job for so long, then he's fired.
Unless they hire them and they are smart enough to wait until they have time in grade over others before becoming lazy...

Obviously you've never been in a union. Or you are the lazy one.

I think your impressions about unions are not from personal experience but from what you've been told to believe.
While I've never personally been in a union we have to work with the union groups all the time. I've never worked with people that have less urgency and the added bureaucracy when dealing with them makes it extremely inefficient and painful.

LMAO... you post from Dailykos while talking about Fox twisting facts??? Dailykos doesn't even refute what he quoted from which was a direct quote from the video of the General Manager saying it. So tell us, now that the General Manager has come out and stated that they were told they had to affiliate with a union... how is this 'spin from Fox'???

Of course, its Fox.....the dailykos is what you can rely on.....you're a fool, little girl.....and a stupid one at that.

The fact is...the crew is back home and not in NJ.....thats what matters

I rely on several sources, Unlike you, grampa cracker and they all say Fox only got half the story!

Because SF Fox, as always only reports on half the truth!

Hmmm...

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers issued a statement today denying knowledge of any union shop turning Alabama utility crews away from Sandy recovery.

Thousands of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers members are working around the clock to restore power and clean up the damage left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Many have traveled hundreds of miles from more than a dozen states to help with the effort, risking their own personal safety to get affected communities back online.

It is the policy of this union and the companies we represent to welcome assistance during major natural disasters – regardless of union status.

There have been reports that a nonunion crew was turned away from work in New Jersey. At this stage, it is not clear who is alleged to have turned the crew away and the company that employs the affected workers has denied the claim. IBEW local leaders in New Jersey have reiterated what has been the long standing record of our union –in times of crisis all help is welcome and we pull together with everyone to meet the needs of the public. We have communicated this to the office of New Jersey Governor Christie as well.

It is unfortunate that at a time when skilled line workers are working around the clock to help devastated communities, sketchy reports should cast a pall over these efforts. The real story is that our members and others are working side by side to help people in New Jersey and all affected states get their power back and recover from the effects of the storm.

The IBEW will continue to give it our all, working with anyone who shares our commitment to safety and service to ensure relief for the people of the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

LMAO... so a news story has to be proven to have occurred before being reported on?

So all the news we see with 'such and so allegedly did x' will no longer be aired?

http://www.cbsatlanta.com/story/19981857/some-nonunion-ala-crews-turned-away-from-sandy-recovery

It made the news on CBS in Atlanta... so I think it qualifies as a news story. Just not news you want to hear.

Also amazing how those wanting to help have now been classified as "hicks with buckets".

Jesus fucking christ, is every thread on this forum bound to turn into a flamefest???

I posted a story I found. If the sources are not enough, so be it. (although those acting as if I am some sort of rightwing hacker have not paid attention to my posts these last few years)

A utility worker gave a story to a news agency. The news agency apparently thought him trustworthy. Some people apparently don't. But does all of that justify the bullshit spewed here by both sides?? WTF?

You think this is bad, just wait until the Monday before the election. :D

Decatur said it waited for "clarification" of documents from the IBEW "that implied a requirement of our employees to agree to union affiliation" while working in New York and New Jersey.

"As we waited for clarification, we became aware that Seaside Heights received the assistance they needed from other sources," the statement says. "To be clear, at no time were our crews 'turned away' from the utility in Seaside Heights."

Just wait for Wednesday. My, the suicide hot-lines will be busy. We should start digging trenches around major cities for the inevitable mass graves that will be needed to dispose of all the bodies.
